The Cleveland Browns sent a message when they released Linebacker D’Qwell Jackson and let Safety T.J. Ward test free agency. They want to go in a different direction this season. The Browns are starting the makeover with Safety Donte Whitner and Linebacker Karlos Dansby.
Whitner, a native of Cleveland and Glenville High School product, is a two time pro-bowler who is known as an aggressive hitter. He is similar to T.J. Ward in that respect but he is more versatile than Ward. Whitner has nine seasons under his belt and recorded 82 tackles, two interceptions, and a career best 15 passes defended. Cleveland now has an elite safety and hometown hero. Ward was also elite but not as experienced. He signed a 4 year-$28 million deal ($7 million annually)
Ward will not be coming back to the Browns. He signed with Denver earlier today.
Dansby replaces Jackson and is a true pass rusher. He recorded 122 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 19 passes defended. He signed a 4 year-$24 million deal.

Reports indicate the Browns may have a three headed monster on defense at the end of the night as they are close to a deal with Arthur Moats. He recorded 54 tackles last year.
Browns interested in Quarterback Matt Schaub
Multiple reports indicate the Browns may sign Quarterback Matt Schaub if the Houston Texans release him.
Trade with Tampa Bay possible
The Browns are attempting a trade for Cornerback Darrelle Revis. The proposed deal may involve draft picks. The Buccaneers will have to restructure Revis’ contract first.

This is just the start as the Browns had approximately $50 million in cap space. They will likely continue to revamp the defense and retool the offense. Schaub is on the Browns radar. Several receivers have been linked to the Browns. They may also sign a Running Back.
