ARLINGTON- The Cleveland Browns have three picks in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Although Cleveland traded for Jarvis Landry, it is imperative to set quarterback Tyrod Taylor up for success. Texas A/M receiver Christian Kirk is a must have for the Browns.

What does Kirk do for an offense that struggles to score any points? He can hurt defenses with his speed and ability to make circus catches in traffic as well as the end zone. The Browns need more receivers that get yards after the catch (YAC). Kirk has the quick feet, strength, and body control to keep moving after receptions. He is also a special teams threat who can generate scoring before the offense takes the field. Kirk caught 71 passes for 919 yards and ten touchdowns. He averaged 12.9 yards per reception in 2017. Drafting Kirk would make up for not signing Allen Robinson, Terrelle Pryor and Allen Hurns.

Some Browns fans may question this selection citing that the team already has Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry and Corey Coleman. However, it is illogical to assume that this offense, that isn’t known as a high octane scoring unit, has enough playmakers right now. They need one or two more scoring threats. This isn’t a speculative point of view, it’s a definitive statement.

Coleman is locked into handling his legal troubles. If the off the field drama doesn’t keep him from playing football, a likely injury during the season will sideline him. Coleman has a history of sustaining injuries so the Browns can’t depend on him being healthy. Also, if Coleman really did lead a group to commit assault, he could face punishment for that. Therefore, the Browns need a solid, reliable third receiver on the depth chart. Coleman simply can’t be depended on at this time. Kirk can take Coleman’s place on the depth chart and probably impact the Browns offense right away.

If the Browns receiving core is led by Gordon, Landry and Kirk, the offense could be a top 12 unit. It’s possible the Browns will need to give up draft picks to trade up for Kirk. Should another team look to draft Kirk in the first round, trading two or three picks is a negligible price for such a highly touted offensive weapon.
