When it comes to cars, the best of the best aren’t cheap, and the only way for a regular person to afford one would be to learn how to play the Powerball lottery and then get lucky. Aston Martin Valkyrie
Named for the figure from Norse mythology, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is of similar mythic stature. The hybrid electric car is a collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing, and has only begun production this year, but the specs have been public for some time: 1130 horsepower, 6.5L V12 engine, 7-Speed Ricardo Dual Clutch and a hybrid battery system. All this hardware doesn’t come cheap, though, and Aston Martin is asking an enormous 3.2 million dollars per unit.
Rolls-Royce Sweptail
Next up we have the world’s most expensive car – a title that hasn’t changed (yet) in 2018. The Sweptail is almost ludicrously expensive, at 13 million dollars. You can get private jets for cheaper than that, so what is about the Sweptail that commands such a price tag? Well, for starters, Rolls-Royce only made one of them, and it was painstakingly modeled using the finest materials.
Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio
Based on Ferrari’s popular (and relatively reasonable) 458 Spyder, the Pininfarina Sergio takes things to new heights with its lightweight carbon fiber frame, top speed of 198 mph and its innovative aerodynamic design. If you have a spare 3 million dollars kicking around from your Powerball jackpot winnings, this is perhaps the prettiest car on the list.
McLaren P1 LM
This is the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1. According to its Wikipedia article, the P1 LM “set the fastest ever time for a road car up the Goodwood hillclimb, with a time of 47.07 seconds”, continuing its success later on other test tracks. P1s can reach a top speed of 225mph and do their 0-60mph in just 2.4 seconds; it better, considering that McLaren is asking an astronomical 3.6 million dollars for it.
Bugatti Chiron
Let’s end with a relatively inexpensive one – a car that only costs 2.7 million dollars. The Bugatti Chiron is the car of choice for billionaire playboys worldwide, with its sleek exterior, buzzing 8-litre, quad-turbocharged engine, and 1480 horsepower. It’s a racecar barely disguised as street legal, and it can be yours for the price of an apartment in Midtown Manhattan.
