The idea of having to work for the rest of your life can be overwhelming, especially if the career path you choose is not one that inspires you.

Being happy is the number one thing people want out of life. Sure, money, family, and fulfillment are all important. However, in life we face challenges day in and day out, some of which are out of our control.

That’s why taking control of the things in life we can, and allowing them to make us as happy as possible, is so important.

What Makes People Happy at Work?

Research has continued to prove that people want happiness, especially in the workforce. But what exactly are the factors that make a job satisfying?

  • The ability to use your core strengths

1. Construction Manager

You may not think this job would bring you a lot of happiness. After all, working in construction comes with extreme weather conditions, hard physical labor, and stressful deadlines. That said, taking on important projects and being the leader brings a lot of happiness and excitement to your life.

2. Ultrasound Technician

Capturing visual images of a patient to help diagnose an underlying health issue (or better yet see a growing baby!) can bring a person who is passionate about helping others a lot happiness. You get to be independent, socialize with others, and never have to sit behind a desk.

3. Real Estate Agent

Buying a house is great. But selling them can be even better. Becoming a real estate agent is a great way develop a personal brand, control your own schedule, and make a lot of money in the process. And to top it off, you don’t need a lot of schooling. In fact, in California, you only need to pass the California real estate license test and you can start working right away.

4. Event Planner

Designing and organizing people’s important events – birthdays, office parties, and baby showers – gives you a direct in on other people’s happiness, which can in turn make you happy. You get to experience many challenges and even get in on some of the fun come party day.

5. Photographer

Having a job to express your creativity with is usually going to garner you happiness. Take your knack for all things visual and become a photographer. Not only will every photo shoot be different, your connection with others will bring a joy to your life you never thought was possible.

6. Veterinarian Tech

Another job that requires very little schooling, but produces a lot of satisfaction, is being the veterinarian’s technician. Providing medical care to people’s precious pets can give you a sense of purpose, a good living, and plenty of time away from a desk.

In the end, there are plenty of jobs capable of fulfilling your need to be happy. So, don’t settle for something that doesn’t make you happy. After all, you need to work your entire life; you might as well enjoy it.
