Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson told Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida-Times Union last week he had “earned” his next big pay day with the team.

Robinson’s breakout season in 2015 – 80 catches for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns – led to a Pro Bowl invite. Last season, however, wasn’t anything close to his stats from a year ago. He had 883 yards on 73 catches with only six scores. His totals ranked 1th over the course of the past two seasons.

If the Jaguars are going to make things happen on offense, Robinson is going to have to “revert” back to his 2015 form. He and quarterback Blake Bortles will have to find that connection that saw both players have solid seasons. There must be more communication and a better handle on the passing offense.

Robinson told O’Halloran he is poised for another big year.

“The most frustrating part of [last] year was that I was an improved player coming in,” Robinson said. “I was a better route runner, I thought I was creating more separation. Even though the outcome wasn’t there, I knew that. … Now it’s coming in as an even more improved player and having that strain. We have to do it every day and every game.”

Allen Robinson believes he has “earned” a contract extension but will be able to separate the business and football aspects.

“If we get something done, we do and if not, I have a big year coming ahead for me and I have an obligation to my teammates to play at a high level,” Robinson said.

When the Jaguars introduced Tom Coughlin as the executive vice president of this organization, he said he wants tougher play from everyone on the roster. The passing game had to play better. The run game had to improve. Wide receivers had to do their part. Robinson, Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee have a chance to be one of the better young pass catching trios in the league this year. It all hinges on Bortles and how he takes the next step in his progression.

Allen Robinson was already looking forward to 2017 once the 2016 season had ended. According to bigcatcountry.com, Robinson was making the rounds on Super Bowl Radio Row, but his focus was already shifted forward to this year. “We know we have a big task ahead of us as far as fixing this offense,” he said. “I’m looking forward to that.”

This is the last year of Robinson’s rookie deal. The team has not spoken to the media as to when they will talk contract extension with Robinson, Bortles or Lee. The team locked Hurns up last season with a contract extension.
