INSCMagazine: Get Social!

First off I want to thank the beautiful city of Newport, Rhode Island for hosting the American Athletic Conference. But of course, the city was not 100% the reason for this conference media day to be the success it was. Mike Aresco and his staff pulled out all the stops for this and turned this into a 2-day getaway that is second to no other conference in NCAA. The media days started out with a golf tournament at Newport National Golf Club in which media members, players, and coaches were invited to come out and play golf in a 4 person scramble type event. In addition to team prizes, there would be individual prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin.  All were sponsored by the conference, in addition to the meals and any drink that we could have while on the course.  Now as you can see my team which included Independence Bowl Rep Darin Seal, DV Sports Rep Kim Jackson, and writer Al Myatt from bonesville.net.  We did not fare so well as we weren’t able to get anything going. This course plays very much like a traditional Linx style but overall we had a fun time and a great experience.

After we were done with the golfing it was on to the main-event of the day. This is where the official start of Media Days would be because everyone would end up being there. It is their traditional clambake with lobster, this year some 500 lbs of lobster were brought in for consumption in addition to the mussels, clams, potatoes, corn, and a bunch of other food including steak and fried chicken. UCF football player Aaron Evans had a record-setting performance when he consumed 11 lobsters by himself and his table accounted for 10% of the entire allotment. The rest of the people at his table included Shaquem Grifin, Jordan Akins Jamiyus Pittman and Coach Frost.

In addition to all of this, there was an actual media conference where the media would be able to interview the players and coaches of the conference. This years host was none other than Legedenary sports announcer Verne Lundquist. There will be followed up articles about the actual conference.
