INSCMagazine: Get Social!

With eighth-placed Arsenal set to unveil newly officially acquired striker Lucas Perez and center-back Shkodran Mustafi in North London soon, will these moves finally silence the loud and often critical “Wenger Out” group of fans and critics of Arsene Wenger?

Wenger, the longtime French boss of Arsenal, has had a frustrating reputation for being frugal, cheap and often smug and arrogant.

For non-Arsenal fans, “Wenger Out” or #WengerOut as seen on social media in various Arsenal supporter groups, is the faction of Arsenal fans that have long been critical of Wenger’s in-game tactics and off-the-field reluctance to make a big splash in the transfer window.

Wenger Out supporters are also highly critical of Arsenal’s American majority shareholder and owner in Stan Kroenke, owner of Kroenke Sports Enterprises*—also owns the NFL’s recently-relocated Los Angeles Rams, MLS side Colorado Rapids, NBA’s Denver Nuggets, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League.

(Editor’s Note*: To satisfy NFL ownership restrictions that forbid a team owner from owning teams in other markets, the Colorado-based sports properties are under the name of his son, Josh)

Not to say that you can blame Wenger Out supporters for their angst and criticism aimed at both Kroenke and Wenger, but what gets me is that how these same “fans” are having a collective meltdown DESPITE Arsenal dropping £100 million ($131.3 US) during the transfer window?

I mean, if the logic and urban myth of Arsenal—mostly Wenger and that evil Arsenal board led by S.P.E.C.T.R.E-esque Bond villain reject in chief executive Ivan Gazidis—are so cheap, then unless they hit up Virgin CEO Sir Richard Branson for a line of credit why is it they were able to snag midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35 million, the aforementioned Perez, formerly of Deportivo La Coruna for £17 million and Mustafi, formerly of Valencia for another cool £35 million?

And let’s not forget currently loaned out to VfB Stuttgart striker (oh my, a second one!) in Takuma Asano formerly of Sanfreece Hiroshima too.

So, that brings Arsenal’s summer transfer window tally to F-O-U-R.

So please stop with the petulant whining child-like temper tantrum about Arsenal not signing your dreamboat striker, center back or whatever, because you are an embarrassment to true die-hard Arsenal supporters everywhere.

And unless the British pound is suddenly compounding more interest since England’s “Brexit” from the European Union, then the fake, glory-hunting plastic Wenger Out wankers don’t have much of a proverbial leg to stand out.

I’ll admit that I’m NOT Wenger’s biggest fan due to always hearing—and seeing my Facebook feed blow up with Gooners whining and complaining about some ill-advised substitution or missing out on the likes of Julian Draxler, Jamie Vardy, Romalu Lukaku and Riyad Mahrez.

Oh! And let’s not forget every Wenger Out supporter’s current wet dream in Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette, a 25-year-old goal-poaching prodigy, who you’d swear is the second coming of Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Ian Wright, based on the constant chatter in Arsenal boards, is currently terrorizing Ligue 1 in netting six goals in three games.

Now, I know that Perez isn’t whom many expected Arsenal to spend money on and sign, but because he isn’t the likes of Lacazette or Edison Cavani or Alvaro Morata, but can these FIFA ’16-playing Muppets just be happy about something Wenger does right for once?

The bottom line is that I’m not trying to generalize a group of supporters of my favorite club team, and yes Le Professeur even drives me nuts with his aloofness and off-hand answers to questions after a loss, but we are all Gooners and love the club.

You may not like the guy, and again I get it.

But suppose that Wenger is sacked, who would replace him? PLEASE name and provide me a list of five comparable replacements in the comments section below and I will not question your collective sanity or intellectually bankrupt credibility.

Sound fair?

Until then, put down the Xbox controller and put away the sophomoric protest banners and cheer on the Gunners and give Mustafi and Perez a proper welcome.

Until then, Wenger In!
