Getting to the Quarterback with More Pass Rushers

Melvin Ingram (OLB) – Los Angeles Chargers

I see Elvis Dumervil being released before free agency as a cap casualty. If that happens, a productive and younger starter like Melvin Ingram would be a great replacement. Ingram and Terrell Suggs would be a very fearsome duo that would help the pass rushing woes of 2016. The problem is Ingram will require a big contract and I would only sign him if the Ravens get more cap room by releasing cap casualties. Even then, other teams needing pass rush will most likely offer him the money he wants so I do not think it is a realistic possibility. But if the Baltimore Ravens want to go all in on the pass rush and a guy that can set the edge, then he is the ticket to improve an upcoming defense in 2017.

Jabaal Sheard (OLB) – New England Patriots

Another Patriot that could be worth signing, Jabaal Sheard fizzled out of the defensive gameplan in 2016. While it is unclear why that is, Sheard would be a nice piece next to Terrell Suggs and could be cheaper than other pass rushers. He can also be a versatile player and play some defensive end in a 3-4 defense at times. If the Baltimore Ravens want to at least look at addressing pass rush in free agency, they should look at Sheard as an affordable and solid option, depending on if he is resigned or not. His high motor can be well utilized in Baltimore as a Raven as a rotational pass rusher on passing downs. Sheard is not a complete pass rusher but he is good at what he does and that is getting to the quarterback, which is needed in Baltimore.
