BOSTON – After a highly-publicized deliberation of 12 jurors that lasted 15 days in the case of Boston bomber Dzhokhar “Jahar” Tsarnaev was found guilty on multiple counts of mass weapons use. With the verdict, Tsarnaev is eligible for the death penalty.

Tsarnaev, 21, was found guilty of 30 counts of mass weapons use, 17 of which include the death penalty, resulted in the deaths of three, and injuring more than 260 with the use of pressure-cooker bombs, placed at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon.

The defense claimed that while Tsarnaev took part of the bombing, that he was under the influence of his older brother, Tamerian, in a case that saw the prosecution call 92 eyewitnesses, while the defense called four.

The 30 counts that some called Jahar were convicted of were;

  • Count 1 – Conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death – death penalty charge
  • Count 2 – Use of a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge.
  • Count 3 – Possession and use of firearm in a crime resulting in death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge
  • Count 4 – Use of a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge.
  • Count 5 – Possession and use of a firearm in a crime resulting in death; aiding and abetting. – death penalty charge.
  • Count 6 – Conspiracy to bomb a place of public use resulting in death – death penalty charge.
  • Count 7 – Bombing of a place of public use resulting in death; aiding and abetting. – death penalty charge.
  • Count 8 – Possession and use of a firearm in a crime resulting in death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge.
  • Count 9 – Bombing of a place of public use resulting in death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge.
  • Count 10 – Possession and use of a firearm in a crime resulting in death; aiding and abetting –death penalty charge.
  • Count 11 – Conspiracy to maliciously destroy property resulting in personal injury and death.
  • Count 12 – Malicious destruction of property resulting in personal injury and death; aiding and abetting – death penalty charge.

The additional charges of possession of a firearm, carjacking and use of a weapon of mass destruction stemming from Tsarnaev’s carjacking of a Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV that he used to elude law enforcement and his possession of improvised explosive devices (IED’s) and a 9mm Ruger P95 semi-automatic pistol used during the firefight with Boston police officers four days after the bombing, in which he would eventually be apprehended.

The trial will move to its second phase during his official sentencing next week to determine whether he should receive the death penalty or receive life in prison.
