It is a major Game 3 for the Boston Red Sox. After getting beaten 6-0 at the hands of the Indians in Game 2, the Red Sox are now on the brink of elimination and are putting all their faith into a pitcher who has his ups and downs.
Before I get into Game 3, I just want to take a look at Game 2. The Boston offense did not show up, and David Price got to light up. That sums it up pretty well. The excuse coming out of Game 1 was that the Indians just did a bit better and that is true. However, that was not the case in Game 2 as the Red Sox just didn’t show up. I also don’t suspect that the Red Sox will turn it around and make this series.
Unfortunately, I have a good feeling that the Red Sox are roasted, toasted, and are done. It is very tough to come back in a series after losing the first two in the opponent’s ballpark.
As far as Game 3 goes, the Red Sox are giving the ball to Clay Buchholz. He didn’t have a terrific 2016 as he would go 8-10 with an ERA close to 5. On the other side, the Indians are sending Josh Tomlin to the mound. He had a decent 2016 as he went 13-9 with an ERA of 4.40. It should be noted that he had an under 2 ERA in the final weeks of the season. An advantage that goes in the Indians favor is they have a well-rested bullpen. So even if Tomlin has problems, Terry Francona can turn to his bullpen.
However, I figure John Ferrall to have a short leash on Clay, and the first moment where he starts to crack under pressure, he will get pulled.
