Well the Carolina Panthers have been a total letdown this season. They entered this season coming off a Super Bowl appearance, and viewed as one of this season’s top teams. Five weeks in, and the team is 1-4 and look like they are in some serious trouble. This week they travel to take on a divisional foe in the New Orleans Saints, who also only have one win on the season, and are coming off a bye.

The games big question surrounds the status of the Panthers’ franchise quarterback, Cam Newton. He missed last weeks game with a concussion, even though he was spotted riding around on a scooter with no helmet. Despite practicing, he remains in the concussion protocol as of now. He is expected to play this week, but it is not a lock. Without Newton last week, the offense was completely non-existent outside of tight end Greg Olsen. Their defense has been below average on the year, and are clearly missing star corner Josh Norman. The team has simply done nothing to this point to instill any confidence in fans, and I sure as hell do not want to be laying points with them on the road.

Now bring in the Saints, who get to play this one at home. It just so happens Drew Brees and the team tend to look better at home, although they did win their sole game on the road this season. Coming off a bye, I expect them to be fully prepared for this NFC South rivalry game. Their defense is as strong as a wet paper bag, so the offense if going to need to carry them. But they are certainly capable of doing just that, especially given the way Carolina’s defense has been playing.

It will be a game that could have plenty of points. But one that sees the Saints use home field advantage to pull away when all is said and done. No way I am laying points with this Panthers team on the road against a divisional rival coming off a bye.
