Marvel Cinematic Universe: “The Road To Infinity War” Series – Brought To You By INSCMagazine

Do you like puzzles? Do you like superheroes? Well if you answered yes to both of those questions, then the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are perfect for you!

For those of you that are not aware of the MCU, it is a collection of films that have been hitting theaters since 2008 when Iron Man was released on May 2nd of that year. Since that time, there has been a total of 14 films released that exist within the Universe, in addition to a number of tv shows.

But for the most part, the films and shows stay fairly separate, with the exception of a few minor connections to show they all exist within the same world. The reason I enjoy these films so much, in addition to the great characters, fun stories, and comedy of the actual films, is how they all connect together.

While a character may not show up in a film, the events of that film could greatly impact the storyline of that very character’s upcoming solo film. With such a large puzzle of films, there needed to be an overarching connector that would be able to bring them all together.

And that is where the Infinity Stones come into play. They are six cosmic stones scattered around the universe, each with its own unique power. When put together in the Infinity Gauntlet, these stones can become even more dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands. And it just so happens that Thanos, the MCU’s biggest baddie, is on a mission to get them all.

We have yet to see Thanos at his fullest, although we have gotten a few glimpses. But he will finally be on full display in next year’s big blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War. This film is going to be one of the biggest in the history of movies.

It will serve as the third Avengers film, and it is set to bring in almost every major character we have come to know in the MCU. While it is not a “part one”, it will also tie in with 2019’s Avengers film, which is currently without a title. But with such a massive film full of so many characters, we need to break things down a bit.

So that is where INSC’s upcoming “Road to Infinity War” character series is going to come into play. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be providing a breakdown of every major hero within the MCU. We will take a look at where they were the last time we saw them. We will see when we may see them show up again (before Infinity War, during it, or after). And finally what type of role they are set up to have in the massive film.

With four films set for release before the third Avengers flick, there are plenty of possibilities for each character. That is why we want to take a closer look at each character on an individual basis, in an effort to help understand the MCU better.

The character’s that we will be covering, in no particular order, are listed below

  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • Hulk
  • Thor
  • Black Widow
  • Hawkeye
  • Scarlet Witch (Quicksilver will even get a nod in here)
  • Vision
  • Winter Soldier
  • War Machine/Rhodey
  • Falcon
  • Ant-Man (and Wasp)
  • Spider-Man
  • Doctor Strange
  • Black Panther
  • Captain Marvel
  • The Guardians of the Galaxy (The whole gang, including Yondu and Nebula)

So be sure to be on the lookout for all of these character breakdowns in the coming weeks. The road to Infinity War will be a little different for each of these characters. So it will be interesting to see how they will eventually end up in the cross-fire of the big purple guy.

Is there a character you want to hear about that didn’t make the list? Tell us in the comments and I can add them on!

Spider-man Homecoming: Trailer #2

Tom Holland broke onto the screen in Captain America: Civil War as Spider-man. Even with his short appearance in the film he stole the show. With the fast-paced action and witty one-liners, Holland quickly became a fan favorite.

In a complicated agreement, Marvel and Sony worked out a deal that would allow Spider-man to be used in the MCU so long as the studio helped build the character up for Sony’s stand alone films. That being said, Spider-man was in Civil War and Marvel loaned Robert Downey Jr, as Tony Stark, to Spider-man Homecoming to complete the shared universe. Can Marvel’s star power brighten an all to dim Spider-man reception?

While the casting of Spider-Man Homecoming is about as big as it still seems to be lacking. With the latest trailer, even with Tony Starks witty banter, nothing seemed to stand out. This iteration of Spider-man seems no different than the Tobey McGuire version done years ago. There’s not much more to distance itself from the Andrew Garfield version either.

Now before everyone jumps on the hate wagon, I have no doubt in seeing the movie. With a younger version of Peter Parker that fits the traditional role, it will stay true to the comics. Even with the cast including Robert Downey Jr, Michael Keaton, and Community favorite Donald Glover is enough to make me buy a ticket.

However, with Justice League, Thor, Wonder Woman and even Star Wars Homecoming has a lot to compete against this year. If a trailer flops, studios might take an initial hit at the box office until word of mouth catches on. This version of Peter Parker might have the backing of the MCU, but so far nothing about the character screams anything different from what we’re used to seeing. Hopefully, by July 7th’s release date the studio will change my mind.

Is Roman Reigns Already The Heel Everyone Loves To Hate?

Love him or hate him, Roman Reigns is doing exactly what he is supposed to do in a wrestling ring. He’s currently one of the best when inciting crowd reaction. That’s what professional wrestlers do, that’s what makes this business so successful. When it comes to giving fans a chance to show how they feel about Reigns of any other WWE superstar, it doesn’t really matter which side of the fence fans stand, according to company COO Triple H.

According to, Triple H responded to fans saying based on his current crowd reaction, Reigns is already a heel.

“People can look at Roman Reigns and say, ‘The failed attempt that is Roman Reigns,’ but Roman Reigns sells tickets. Roman Reigns gets one of the loudest reactions every night, whether that reaction is a boo or whether that reaction is a cheer. The fans who say, ‘I don’t understand why they don’t turn Roman Reigns heel!’ Isn’t he already?”

Reigns has shown more aggression in recent weeks leading up to his confrontation with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. The “Big Guy” has been the company’s heir apparent to John Cena (at least in their eyes) for some time now, drawing the ire of fans worldwide who have been disappointed with the notion they must accept the McMahon family’s plan to make the three-time WWE World Champion the focal point of the babyface contingent once Cena decides to hang up his boots for good.

Triple H is right, fans see Reigns how they want to see him and as long as he continues to draw money at house shows and live events, he will be used in the best way the company sees fit.

“If you believe what you believe, and you’re saying, ‘How can they not turn him heel? There is 70 percent of the crowd booing him out of the building!’ If that’s your belief, then isn’t he already the biggest heel we have? If 70 percent of that crowd is booing him, then he’s a heel. We’re just presenting him to you in a different way that makes you hate him.”

The problem with Reigns is his rise to glory was a path that took too long to develop. He should have won Royal Rumble in 2014 instead of WWE pushing Batista toward the main event at WrestleMania 30. The slight change of story and this might not have been an issue. The former Shield member was white hot. He could have gone to the event, won and WWE’s loyal fans would have accepted it.

With the rise of Daniel Bryan and an injury which affected his status toward the end of 2014, Reigns lost momentum, which we all know killed any chance of “Armageddon” taking place. This business is about grabbing the torch when it’s hot. When he returned, his path to the world title was booked with steps and missteps. Both Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose – his two stablemates, had past him in popularity. After three title runs and a violation of the company’s wellness policy, Reigns hasn’t held Raw’s top title again. Because of this, it may be a while before he put back in the main event picture.

When Reigns steps in the ring with Undertaker in Orlando, it may be to end the icon’s career. His edginess and aggression are perfect for this kind of confrontation – one where it appears he has taken a decided heel persona. The thought possible being that a hated Reigns ending ‘Taker’s career is much more appealing to fans, who love the Dead Man – no matter which side of the fence he stands. In this case, no matter who were to end his Hall of Fame career would be the decided villain.

Leave it to WWE to cast Reigns in such a way that his presence is enough to stir boos from the arena – which makes his character even more hated, but still popular enough for the company to cash in on his value to the company.

Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2: When Does The Film Take Place Along The MCU Timeline?

It is an exciting time to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 2017 will see three films hitting theaters leading up to 2018 which will see the third Avengers film. But we still have some time until we reach Infinity War. The next stop on the Marvel train will be on May 5th, 2017 when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reaches the big screen.

When it comes to Guardians two, the core cast is set to return. We have Star-Lord. We have Gamora. We have Rocket. Drax. Groot (just in baby form this time). Yondu. And even Nebula. These characters are set to bring plenty of laughs to fans as the trailers make this one look just as fun as the first. While the some of the characters may be the same, there is still plenty of intrigue surrounding this film.

Some of this comes from a handful of new characters. Some of it comes from the coming battle with Thanos down the line. But some of it also comes to the timeline. In particular, fans want to know, when does this film take place?

For the most part, the films within the MCU take place in chronological order. As a result, they often occur in real time. By that I mean if a film came out in November of 2015, then it is roughly the same time within the Marvel world. But that is not always the case.

The most obvious film that breaks the mold is Captain America: The First Avenger, which came out in 2011. Most of the film takes place decades before the events of Iron Man, which was the start of the universe in 2008. But even then, the film ends with Steve Rogers waking up during present day, which likely lined up with the real life timeline.

Now let’s bring the focus back to the Guardians. The first film was released in 2014. That was late in phase two, in between Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron. But the best part about the Guardians is they have literally no connection to the events that have taken place in the other films to this point.

As a result, their place in the timeline is a bit unclear. Now I would assume that the first film took place between or around the events of Winter Soldier and Ultron. But I cannot say that with 100 percent certainty. But moving forward in this piece, I will be going under that assumption.

So given that, where does that leave us with Volume 2? Well we do happen to have one major clue. That of course being none other than Baby Groot! Given Groot has only aged slightly since we last saw him, the question has come up in regards to how far after the first film is this one. It sounds like the general answer from those involved in the film is a couple of months.

Therefore, if the original Guardians takes place in late 2014, then that would place the new film somewhere in early 2015. That would place it around the time of the whole Ultron and Sokovia ordeal. And if you take things one step further into the future, this placement does seem to make sense.

By the time Infinity War rolls around, Groot is expected to be back to regular size. That movie will be released in early 2018. If Guardians two was taking place only a year prior, Groot would likely be somewhere in between Baby and regular size Groot.

But by having the events of this film actually take place in 2015, that would give us roughly three years before Infinity War. So my best guess is they take the First Avenger route. The first 98 percent of the film will take place in the past. Now it won’t be as far back as the original Captain America film went, but still it won’t be present day. Then at the conclusion of the movie, they will fast forward to current day.

That way we can get caught up on where Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora and the gang are in 2017. With Infinity War fast approaching, their place on the timeline is important. They will be crossing paths with the Avengers in the near future.

It may seem like a relatively minor detail, but when the film exists within a universe as big as the MCU, these things matter. So when do you think the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 take place in relation to the other MCU films? Tell us in the comments!

Pretty Little Liars: Could there be a Emily, Alison spinoff in the works?

With a little over a week left until the Pretty Little Liars 7B season starts the cast took to the Paleyfest Panel and tried their best to not let out any secrets about the upcoming final 10 episodes or the future. However, one of the cast members may have spilled the beans on a possibility that drove the crowd wild.

When a fan asked as about the possibility of an Emison spinoff, Shay Mitchell replied ““Would you guys be interested in seeing that?”. That was enough to drive the fans insane. But what does that mean for Alison and Emily storylines as the show comes to a close? If there are talks of a spinoff that feature the two actresses then that means that both have survived ‘Uber A’.

Then, to add more optimism to their union, show creator, I. Marlene King went on to say this.

“Alison sort of hasn’t dealt with her sexuality, and these [remaining] episodes are about Alison trying to figure out what her sexuality is — and Emily plays a big part of that,”

It’s all speculation but it shows how much fans have turned around in terms of their interest in ‘Mean Girl’ Alison. At first, she was Public Enemy No.1 but after she came back to Rosewood, she seemed to be a bit softer and kinder. As far as her relationship with Emily, they are one of my favorites as you can see in this link.

If the producers of Pretty Little Liars could pull this spinoff together it will give the fans and the supporters of the LGBTQ community a show with substance instead of the cruel back-handed jokes we see on TV today. As for the fans of PLL and most notably, Emison it will give us more time to spend with a couple that we’ve secretly had a crush on for years.

There was no denying the attraction that Emily had for Alison yet it may have taken Ali a while to realize her feelings for Em. At the conclusion of 7A we finally got to see Ali and Em together and it just made sense. However, there is still the mystery of the father to Alison’s baby that she’s carrying. Now, with this being PLL there is no concrete proof that the child has a father. Remember when Emily donated her eggs for money then they went missing? Now Alison is pregnant.

The final 10 will feature a lot of scenes with Alison and Emily as they explore the possibility of a relationship but with the way Shay posed that question, it’s almost a sure bet they end up together in the end.

The Walking Dead: The Calm Before the Storm for the Season 7 Finale

Next Sunday night, the season finale of Season 7 for The Walking Dead will take place and as expected, it’s the war that has been building up for the last year.

The fight to stay alive and survive is on the horizon. On one side, it’s Negan and “the Saviors,” who have built an army through their community of people and used fear and killing to overpower and take what they want.

On the other side, it’s Rick Grimes and his group. Rick will also likely get the help of the community known as “The Kingdom,” lead by King Ezekial, who have inherited longtime Grimes friends Carol and Morgan, the women’s group from the Oceanside that Tara stumbled upon, and the group of Jadis, another group Rick found to help by offering to trade weapons and supplies for numbers to battle Negan.

This past Sunday, we saw Negan claim another one of Rick’s group in Sasha, who seemed to be on a suicide mission in the previous episode when she infiltrated The Savior’s camp and went gun’s blazing. The episode started out with Sasha nearly being sexually assaulted by one of Negan’s members, David, but Negan himself puts a stop to it when he stuck a knife in his neck and then gave Sasha a choice: join my group or die.

She eventually accepts Negan’s offer, but in the process, she also gets Eugene, who has surrendered himself to the Saviors and Negan, to make her a poison capsule. Eugene thinks Sasha wants to kill herself by taking it, but she might have other plans with it. After all, she did bombard the camp looking to take out the group, as she was one of the many who were on their knees at the Hilltop when Negan played “eenie-meenie-miney-moe” on whose skull he was going to crack with his baseball bat and did so with Abraham and Glenn.

The mind games Negan plays with Sasha enforces his character as the show’s current villain, as while he helps Sasha from being raped in her jail cell, Negan also enforces his power when he takes back the knife that he had left Sasha to kill David when he turned into a zombie. Negan uses his cool demeanor to sweet talk Sasha into thinking she will be safe but also implies that he’s the boss and won’t hesitate to kill her if he has to. Picking Jeffrey Dean Morgan to play Negan may have been one of the better choices as far as a character goes because he portrays the Negan character so well, as he can make him the coolest guy in the room and then at the same time, flip the switch and make you hate him.

In the episode before the finale, Rick had a very anti-climatic struggle in getting the women’s group at the Oceanside to turn over their weapons because they wanted them in their fight against the Saviors. In the showdown, Rick convinces them and gains their trust when they take down a group of walkers (zombies). As they take down the zombies, Rick gains even more members to fight the Saviors, who wiped out all of the men from the women’s group in their previous community.

The final scene from the episode sees Rick and his group face to face with one of Negan’s members, Dwight, in a basement/holding cell, in which, he says he wants to help Rick take down Negan. Dwight has had issues with their group, especially Daryl, who tried to lunge at Dwight when he saw him in their building.

The last thing we all see is Rick telling Dwight to get on his knees while pointing his revolver at him, similar to how Negan told all of Rick’s group on the Hilltop to get on their knees. Given the way Rick has been through the entire series, he’s likely going to put Dwight to a test to see if he’s for real as opposed to just killing him. Despite the fact that he’s a key member of Negan’s group, Dwight also resents Negan for stealing his wife and burning his face with a hot iron, so the double-cross makes sense, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see Dwight die in the next episode, probably at the hands of Negan in some fight scene.

While some fans were hoping for an action-packed episode, this episode before the finale was definitely the calm before the storm. The finale should be an intense one and likely one filled with a massive battle and possibly the end of the feud between Negan and Rick, with Negan meeting his demise.

It’s a finale that fans have been waiting a year for, and now, they’ll have to wait at least one more week.
