The chant you can hear while tailgating or walking towards First Energy Stadium is “Here We Go Brownies, Here We Go!” But, after Sunday’s disappointing opener, should Cleveland Browns fans being singing this instead? “Here We Go Again, Here We Go!”

Fans all over the United States have chimed in over Sunday’s let down against a mediocre Miami Dolphins team. But, it’s not time to throw in the towel yet after one game is it? That’s not what Cleveland fans do. “How can we be excited? Weeden looked bad and the o-line was terrible.” said huge Browns fan Nicole of Pickerington, OH. It definitely hurts not having at least one of your two starting guards playing. The offensive line is like an assembly line, if one person falters, the rest of the line is effected.

While there were few positives, perhaps Robb of Youngstown, OH summed it up best, “Other than the excellent run defense, this game was an epic fail.” The Browns held the Dolphins to less than a yard per carry. Some fans like Frank of Willowick,OH saw it coming, saying “I’m not surprised. I knew this team was not very good. They looked worse than they did last year!”  He may have a point. In the opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, the Browns at least fought in the second half scoring 13 points. Cleveland mustered just three Billy Cundiff
points in the second half on Sunday to Miami’s 17.

However, the NFL season is long and full of twists and turns. The phrase “Any given Sunday” truly does apply to this team. There are 15 more games and the optimism remains there. Dawg Pound fan Frank of Caldonia, OH said, “Well I’m not giving up, it was a bad game. Some areas were ok.” And, that’s exactly right Frank. The Browns need to build on the positive areas and correct the fixable things.

In the end, the one thing you can’t take away from the orange-and-brown fans is their pride and loyalty. Win, lose, or draw, these fans battle adversity each week with their team. If they didn’t care, they wouldn’t chime in. The Anchorage Alaska Browns Backers are a prime example of what it means to bleed brown and orange. From 3,900 miles away, a chapter member said it best, “All we can do is keep the faith, support our team, and most importantly support each other.” Well said.

It’s a marathon season Browns fans. Like always, things can only get better. Who knows, maybe we will be celebrating a shocking road victory on Monday. Try to stay positive.
