CLEVELAND – Thanks to some tough defense, two touchdowns from Brian Hoyer and a late interception, the Cleveland Browns upset the Cincinnati Bengals, 17-6 at home.
Hoyer, the first-ever Cleveland-area native to start for the Browns in their illustrious history, continued his inspired play in going 25-of-38 for 269 yards, highlighted by a 12-play, six-minute plus 91-yard drive culminated in a one-yard touchdown pass to Chris Ogbonnaya with 4:51 remaining added another chapter to the ever-growing legend of the former local prep school product.
Cleveland tight end, Jordan Cameron continued his Pro Bowl-type of play in catching ten passes for 91 yards and one touchdown.
The Browns defense once again played very strong in holding Bengals quarterback to 23-of-42 for 206 yards and force one fumble. Browns cornerback Joe Haden all shutdown Cincinnati wide receiver, A.J. Green, who caught seven passes for 51 yards.
The fore-mentioned Skrine, who has often been widely maligned for being targeted and picked on by opposing quarterbacks would come up with a key interception late to thwart a Bengals drive in the fourth quarter to ensure the Browns second straight win and move into a three-way tie with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati for first place in the AFC North.
With the win, Cleveland would win back-to-back games for the first time since Weeks 13 and 14 of last season.
With another strong outing by Hoyer, there is no doubt that the Browns may have found their starter going forward. While it is only two games and is such a small sample to hastily anoint Hoyer the Browns starter going forward, after two solid performances against Minnesota and a Super Bowl contender in the Bengals, Hoyer helped make head coach Rob Chudzinski’s decision about who to start against Buffalo on Thursday so much easier.
No quarterback controversy necessary in Cleveland this time, sorry Brandon Weeden.
