>The magic is back at the corner of East 9th and Ontario in downtown Cleveland, OH. The first place Cleveland Indians knocked off the Seattle Mariners in front of an awesome crowd of over 34,000 fans.
With the Tribe, it’s a new hero every night. This time it was Jason Kipnis, the Indians’ second baseman belted a three run walk off homer in the bottom half of the tenth inning. The place formerly known as “Jacob’s Field” rocked like the days of the mid-1990’s. Kipnis himself even commented about the atmosphere after the game, “Crowd was unbelievable tonight. They brought it tonight.” said Kipnis in a post game interview.
In times that have become filled with tragedy and little triumph, it was nice to see people smiling and hugging as Kipnis’s dramatic home run sailed through the night sky. The city of Cleveland and it’s surrounding areas have begged for a competitive team they could wrap their arms around for several years and the Indians are that team.
Last night’s game was a true testament to the Indians brain trust and how they’ve turned the line up over. In the bottom-of-the-tenth with two outs, new acquisition, Drew Stubbs was caught red-handed in a pick off move to first base. The speedy Stubbs put his head down and bolted for second base. With a low feet first slide, Stubbs was safe and Progressive Field erupted.
Indians’ new table setter, Michael Bourne then ran out an “excuse me” swing for an infield single and Stubbs moved to third. Bourne flew down the first base line and Mariners second baseman, Dustin Ackley didn’t even make a throw. It was speed that kept the Indians alive and gave Kipnis the opportunity in tenth inning.
On “Dollar Dog” night, which over 60,000 hot dogs were consumed by hungry fans, the Tribe once again prevailed in dramatic fashion. The Indians and Mariners play again this afternoon with the first pitch at 1:05 PM. The first place Indians send Zach McAllister to face off with Mariners starter, Joe Saunders.
