The Colorado Rockies entered play on Sunday with a 35-23 record, tied for the most in the National League. Charlie Blackmon has stood out with a .326 average, 13 homers and 47 RBI. The 30-year old leads the MLB in two-out RBI with 25. Blackmon has 8 triples which lead the NL and he is on a team that’s middle of the pack in terms of pitching thus creating more pressure on the offense to score runs.

Other viable candidates such as Bryce Harper, Clayton Kershaw and Ryan Zimmerman are on teams that have a more balanced attack. Washington’s pitching ranks 5th in the NL, the Dodgers’ pitching staff ranks 1st, meanwhile, Colorado’s ranks 8th.

Sure the Rockies have a really good lineup, but Blackmon leads the offensive surge in Coors Field. Blackmon has more RBI and hit(77) than anybody on Colorado’s roster. The bearded wonder has 143 total bases so far in 2017, that’s more than Nolan Arenado(127), Mark Reynolds (105) and DJ LeMahieu (81).

Blackmon can continue his electric season especially since the Rox get to play the Pirates, Reds, Mets, Padres and Braves (their pitching staffs rank in the bottom half of the NL). The lethal lead-off man already has a .357 batting average versus Cincy and .375 average against San Diego. He’s also hitting .387 at home with a .431 on-base percentage.

Without Charlie Blackmon, it’s hard to imagine the Rockies as one of the National League’s best teams in 2017. He’s making his case for the National League MVP and it doesn’t look like he will be taking a breather anytime soon.
