Before the fame, fortune, UFC title belts, being called Notorious and his mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather, he was just a guy from the rough streets of Dublin named Conor McGregor.

Brash. Arrogant. Unapologetic. Whatever adjectives you use to describe the outspoken and charismatic Irish-born MMA megastar you can also call him champion, father and self-made brand name.

Aside from his two UFC title belts, record-setting purse vs. Floyd and YouTube-worthy sound bites, just when you thought you knew the cocky Irishman, think again.

In a rare-behind-the-scenes look behind all the lights, octagon and flash, the 1:30 minute documentary, Conor McGregor: The Notorious, provides a new and eye-opening look at how McGregor rose up from being on welfare and the rough streets of Dublin to one of the world’s most talented, visible and well-known figures in the world.

Notorious follows McGregor in his early days, as a struggling out-of-work welfare recipient and apprentice plumber, who decides to take up mixed martial arts. You see his first days training and sparring long days and hours perfecting his craft at Dublin’s Crumlin Boxing Club , you see and witness his never-before-seen early days as an amateur—buzz cut and sans trademark beard—and you can’t help but instantly be drawn into his origin story.

You also get to see the woman behind him in longtime girlfriend, Dee Devlin, who is right by his side through all of his eventual triumphs and setbacks ringside, as she is the Adrian to his Rocky.

You see McGregor’s close-knit entourage that includes his family composed of his sisters Erin and Aoife, his mother Margaret and father Tony, sparing partners and trainers all form a tight-knit inner circle.

Whether you are a fan of McGregor or not, you cannot help but get goosebumps in watching his gritty rags-to-riches meteoric rise to fame and superstardom. You see the behind-the-scenes reactions to his his 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo to claim the UFC Featherweight championship, his triumph over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 for the UFC Lightweight Championship, and cannot help but start to root for his success.

You see his vulnerability, the blood, sweat and tears of his defeats, his long and grueling rehab from injuries, basically you see the REAL McGregor, in what is a Oscar-worthy story, that shows us the rawest and most stripped-down version of UFC’s biggest megastar.

Love him, hate him, after seeing this, you’ll gain a whole new level of respect for him.
