With 2016 in the books, it’s time to look forward to 2017. Perhaps no actor will have as big of an impact in the New Year than Dane DeHaan, who will look to capitalize on his impressive slate of upcoming films.

DeHaan isn’t a household name to most, but comic book movie fans know him very well. He played Harry Osborne in 2014’s The Amazing Spiderman 2, and was arguably the standout actor in that film. In addition, DeHaan also had starring roles in two other well-known 2012 films, Chronicle and Lawless.

Despite these many projects, DeHaan has yet to become a serious player in Hollywood. That will all change in 2017, as his newest films see him take on a starring role in two Hollywood blockbusters for the first time.

He starts off 2017 with A Cure for Wellness, a thriller from the mind of Pirates of the Caribbean director, Gore Verbinski. What follows is a co-starring role with Cara Delevingne in the film adaptation of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

At 30-years-old, DeHaan has already seen his fair share of Hollywood exposure. He’s been nominated for numerous independent film awards such as the Gotham Awards, Golden Schmoes, and Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association for his roles in quite a few independent films.

DeHaan has received a lot of acclaim for his role in the film, Kill Your Darlings, which he starred opposite Daniel Radcliffe. The independent film earned DeHaan a nomination for Breakthrough Actor at the Gotham Awards, and also a win at the Hamptons International Film Festival for Breakout Actor.

The main goal of any actor is an Academy Award, and while that might not happen in 2017, it’s not out of the question for DeHaan to garner a nomination at some point. If his former roles are any indication, then it’s just a matter of time that he finds that one picture to place him among the acting world’s best.

And while Academy Awards are certainly something DeHaan will strive for, he will also become more recognizable in the mainstream Hollywood market with films such as A Cure for Wellness and Valerian, as both are good vehicles for his ascent into the class of superstar actor.

It might be a little premature to say that Dane DeHaan is going to be the breakout star of 2017. Although, with two big films on the horizon, it’s not too farfetched that he does.
