You don’t have to be a young star to have a breakout year in cinema.

With actors like Calvin De Haan (Amazing Spider Man 2), Ansel Elgort (Divergent, Fault In Our Stars) and Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) making their impacts in Hollywood, it’s 45-year-old wrestler–turned actor–Dave Bautista that might have had the most successful 2014.

Like Dwyane Johnson before him, Bautista made the leap from the WWE ring to the movie screen. Bautista was one of the WWE’s most successful wrestlers during the company’s attitude era–which occurred during the peak era of professional wrestling.

Bautista was always able to spark emotion with a crowd, whether it be as a fan favorite, or a hated villain, so the move to the cinema was a no-brainer.

Bautista started off small taking roles in films such as The Man In the Iron Fists and Riddick. He was never given much of an acting role in these films, it was simply fight and look tough.

However, that all changed in 2014 when the executives at Disney/Marvel came calling.

Guardians Of The Galaxy was the breakout role for Bautista. His portrayal of the monstrous Drax drew rave reviews, as he blended his tough exterior with a funny and surprisingly serious character.

He blended in perfectly with the films action-comedy tone and made a few folks in Hollywood turn their heads. Some of those impressed with Bautista were the executives at Sony, who decided the former WWE heavyweight champion was the ideal fit for the role of Hinx in their upcoming James Bond film Spectre.

In addition to his role in 007, Bautista will also start along Jean-Claude Van Damme in the remake of the classic fight film Kickboxer.

Dave Bautista has carved out his niche on the silver screen.

He has proven he has the acting chops to back up his tough guy image–and that my friends–is the complete package.
