If you are a fan of superhero films, you likely know there are four main studios that have prominent since roughly 2002. Those four studios are Marvel, Warner Brothers (DC comics), Sony and Fox. For this discussion, Warner Brothers is not going to factor in, but we need to run through the other three as they have something in common.

Marvel, Sony and Fox have been utilizing characters that have come from the pages of Marvel comics. Marvel Studios have dominated the box office, but they do not own the rights to all of their characters. Fox has the rights to the X-Men, the Fantastic Four as well as Deadpool. Sony has Spider-Man, but after two attempts at the character, the studio has came to an agreement to share the rights of the iconic character, meaning he can be a part of Marvel Studios films. We will be getting back to Spider-Man shortly.

Now, let’s turn our attention back to Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds absolutely nailed his portrayal of Wade Wilson in this years box office and critical hit, Deadpool. It was an R-rated film that delivered on violence, humor and simply being different than any other superhero film. One aspect of the film that was most entertaining was the breaking of the fourth wall.

For those who are not familiar with the term, it basically means Deadpool talked to the audience, and recognized he was in a movie. When Professor X was mentioned, Deadpool asked if it was the Stewart version or the McAvoy version. In the X-Men universe, we have two actors playing the part of Charles Xavier, Patrick Steward and James McAvoy, as the films have covered different points on the timeline. He even made fun of film sequels, and how they are usually terrible upon the announcement of Deadpool 2. Deadpool is a riot, and the potential of what he could do while breaking the fourth wall are endless.

It is this aspect of the film that could allow the sequel to poke fun at Marvel having its character rights all over the place. Because as a fan, things can get quite confusing when it comes to whether a studio can or cannot use a certain character. And that is what sparked this idea, along with a piece of comic knowledge.

In the comics, Deadpool and Spider-Man share a very rich history. The two have shared many comic books together, and their interactions are often quite humorous. Deadpool tends to frequently annoy Spider-Man, and usually in a way that leaves fans holding their sides from laughter. The bottom-line here is Deadpool and Spider-Man deserve time on the big screen with one another.

But since Spider-Man is being shared between Marvel and Sony, and Deadpool is with Fox, that is not going to happen unless a deal happens. Given the success of Deadpool, Fox is not just going to give him away. A deal similar to the Spider-Man one is certainly possible down the road, but I would not bank on it. But luckily for us, we have had three Spider-Men since 2002.

Now Tom Holland is currently playing Peter Parker in the MCU, so he is off limited. But Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who have both had their runs as the fan favorite are no longer sporting the suit. And that means they are no longer under contract, and are free to do as they please. So how great would it be for these two to show up in Deadpool 2, in what could become one of the best cameos of  2018. Here is what I have in mind.

Deadpool is in an epic battle with the films main villain. They battle through the streets, crashing into cars and buildings. The battle will end with the villain sending Deadpool crashing through a diner as he gets away. Deapool stands up and looks into the camera. He shakes his head and says, “Damn that was one heck of a battle. Pardon me while I grab a chimichanga. Fighting bad guys sure builds up an appetite”.

After his chimichanga as he walks to leave the restaurant, he stops at a table where two men are sitting. He snaps his head to the side and proclaims, “Wait a minute, don’t I know you fellas?”. The camera then turns to the men sitting at the table. It is Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, and both men are wearing sweatshirts and hats.

The two men look at one another, try to decide what to say and finally say “No!”. Deadpool follows that up with, “I don’t know guys. You guys look a lot like a guy I used to know? What are your names?”. Maguire looks at Deadpool and says, “Peter”, followed by Garfield stating, “Parker”.

Deadpool then looks at them camera and shouts, “Wait! Wait! Wait! Do you guys like spiders? Actually, don’t answer that. I’m thinking of a friend of mine who kinda looks like you guys. But he’s younger”. Deadpool proceeds to walk out of the diner. The camera then goes back to Garfield and Maguire sitting at the table together. Garfield looks at Maguire and says, “Wow that was a close one man,” as he proceeds to pull at his sweatshirt’s collar a bit, revealing a slight glimpse of a red spandex shirt underneath. End scene.

It would be a fun way to incorporate Spider-Man into the film without actually using the name, as they cannot thanks to the rights issue. And this does help poke fun at that as well, which only adds to the humor of the situation.

So what do you think? Do you think a Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield cameo in Deadpool 2 would be an awesome idea? Tell us in the comments!
