The Tennessee Titans are in the process of rebuilding. So the trading of a possible key piece of that process is usually unlikely. That was not the case today. The Titans traded WR Dorial Green-Beckham to the Philadelphia Eagles. Did the Titans give up on Beckham too early or did they do him a favor?

The Tennessee Titans, in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, drafted, Dorial Green-Beckham. He was viewed as a project wideout. However, he began to come out late in the year. As the Titans offense grew, so did Green-Beckham. He finished the 2015 season with 32 receptions on 67 targets. He had 549 yards and 4TDs. He was becoming a big play receiver as the year went on. He averaged 17 yards per catch. So why did the Titans trade him?

It could be because the emergence of rookie WR Tajae Sharpe whom the Tennessee Titans took in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The 6’2” 194 lbs WR played his college ball at UMASS. He is a very strong route runner and can play outside or in the slot. He has the strong ability to draw double teams. Though he has yet to prove himself in the NFL, he was easily climbing the charts in Tennessee. He is currently listed as the number 2 WR on the Titans roster

The other is his recent fall on the depth chart. Green-Beckham had recently found himself as low as 6th on the roster. Being that low may not find you on the roster at all when it comes to the final 53. So, in a way, the Tennessee Titans may have done him a favor. The Eagles need some help at wide receiver. Dorial Green-Beckham could become a 3 or a 4 with Philadelphia.

So did the Tennessee Titans “give up” on Dorial Green-Beckham? Maybe they did but, in the end, it seems they did him a favor. I think he would rather be traded than be looking for a team. Let us see how this will play out for both teams involved.
