Entertainment Rumors: Joaquin Phoenix To Join Marvel As Doctor Strange?

According to TheWrap, three-time Academy Award nominated actor and current star of “Sherlock”, Joaquin Phoenix, is close to joining Marvel’s new movie, “Doctor Strange”.

Phoenix, 39, is best known for his portrayal of Commodus in Ridley Scott’s 2000 film, Gladiator opposite Russell Crowe has also garner Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for his work in the 2005 biopic, Walk The Line for his portrayal of Johnny Cash opposite Reese Witherspoon and the 2012 drama, The Master, alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams.

While nothing is official and speculation as of press time, Marvel is set to announce casting for “Doctor Strange” at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday.
