Could Scarlett Johansson be going from Lucy to Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost In The Shell?

According to Hollywood media reports, there appears to be a bit of a shake up going on with the lead role of cyborg heroine, Motoko Kusanagi in Dreamworks’ live-action adaptation of the 1995 Mamoru Oshii-directed anime film, Ghost in the Shell.

Is Scar-Jo set to portray Motoko Kusanagi in the live-action Ghost In The Shell?

Based on the uber-popular Masamune Shirow 1990’s cyber-punk manga of the same name, Ghost In The Shell is widely regarded as one of the first anime movies that helped Japanese animation break into the American mainstream when it was released in 1995.

Margot Robbie, who is best known for her role in The Wolf of Wall Street, has been rumored to be the front-runner for the lead role.  Deadline has reported that talks with Robbie have come to an end thus prompting Dreamworks to offer the role to Johansson for a reported $10 million, per IGN.com.

Scarlett has finely honed her skills as an action heroine in her recurring role of Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers franchise and most recently in the film, Lucy. An offer doesn’t automatically lead to an acceptance, but she certainly proved she has the pedigree.

Robbie may still be accompanying Johansson in the sorority of action heroines as she is being eyed for a potential role in a live-action adaptation of DC Comics Suicide Squad.
