“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”

 – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Selma tells the true story of Dr. Martin Luther King’s involvement in one of the most important events in the history of the Civil Rights Movement.
On Sunday March 21 1965, Dr. King led a march in support of a campaign for equal voting rights. In the face of hatred and violence, King and 3,200 supporters would travel from Selma, Alabama to the state capitol in Montgomery.
By the time they reached their destination, their numbers had grown to nearly 25,000. The heroism and sacrifice of those involved in the march would help to shape history and gain popular support for the passing of The Voting Rights Act of 1965 by the United States Congress.
Selma is directed by Ava DuVernay, based on the screenplay written by Paul Webb.

David Oyelowo leads a talent laden cast that includes: Carmen Ejogo, Tim Roth, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Wilkinson, Lorraine Toussaint, Common, Dylan Baker, Giovanni Ribisi, Omar Dorsey, Niecy Nash, and Alessandro Nivola
