Fans of the classic Fox television series The X-Files, received some very welcome news over the weekend. After a 12-year hiatus (seven if you count the last movie), Fox is looking into to “re-opening” The X-Files by way of a series reboot.

Earlier I had reported that Fox chairman-CEOs, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, were hopeful that if and when the reboot of the show comes to fruition, they would also be bringing back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to reprise their respective iconic roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

If the bosses at Fox were able to make all of that happen, I’m fairly certain it would be the television series equivalent of lightning striking twice in the same place. And if this were to become a reality I, and many other fans, would be ecstatic.

Now this is the point where I’m going to get a little greedy, because there are some other “old friends” that would to have come out of retirement. Sometimes Mulder and Scully found it necessary to go outside of the bureau when they needed help on a case, and three wise men…or guys. That’s it, three wise guys were always ready and willing to lend their expertise, as it were.

Of course I’m speaking of Melvin Frohike (Tom Braidwood), Richard “Ringo” Langly(Dean Haglund), and John Fitzgerald Byers(Bruce Harwood), who are otherwise known as “The Lone Gunmen”. They may be conspiracy theorists, unconventional patriots, government watchdogs, and computer hackers, but they were also a dose of occasional humor that was welcome in an often intense television series.

Now I know they were supposed to have died in The X-Files‘ ninth season, in an episode entitled “Jump the Shark”. What some of you might not know is that they were revealed to be alive and well in the 25 issue comic series, The X-Files: Season 10. So it’s absolutely feasible to bring them back in the reboot.

How about it folks, am I alone in this one? Would any of you other fans like to see them reunite Mulder and Scully with The Lone Gunmen in the reboot of The X-Files. Or perhaps there are other characters that fans would like to see return as well. Maybe Director Skinner? I’m open to suggestions, so if other fans have any ideas or opinions on the matter, feel free to comment below.
