Back in November rumors began to circulate about potential actors and actresses who were being sought to portray younger versions of Scott “Cyclops” Summers and Jean Grey in Sony’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Timothee Chalamet, Ben Hardy, and Charlie Rowe were the young men being considered for the part of a younger Cyclops, while Chloe Grace Moretz, Elle Fanning, and Oscar Nominee Hailee Steinfeld were the young ladies seen as possibilities for the role of a younger Jean Grey.

This afternoon, Latino Review has reported that there is a new group of young actors and actresses who have actually begun testing for the aforementioned roles. Jamie Blackley (If I Stay), Taron Edgerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Tye Sheridan (Mud) are the young men who now appear to be competing to play the younger version of Cyclops. The two young actresses who presently seem to be in the running for the part of the younger Jean Grey are Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones).

It would now appear that two contenders for the role of a young Ororo “Storm” Munroe, have also emerged. Alexandra Shipp, who will appear in the upcoming movie Straight Outta Compton and Zendaya Coleman, who is currently working on the series K.C Undercover, are reportedly current candidates for the role.

As with most casting news, I will consider it rumor until there is an official statement made either by the studio, the talent, or both. And since there still hasn’t been any mention as to whether the original list of talented young men and women who were being pursued have bowed out or not, this could be the studio’s way of ensuring they have a deep talent pool from which to cast these characters.

Since filming begins in Montreal this April, preproduction will likely be starting in the next couple of months. Hopefully that means some solid casting information will start coming to light very soon.

Given the choices, past and present, I know who I would choose for the roles. But just out of curiosity, it would be interesting to know who you readers would cast in these roles. Whether it’s from the previous group or the new one, your comments on the matter are welcome.
