If you have Robert Gronkowski as your starting TE in Fantasy Football then I would like to offer my condolences to you. With Gronk out for possibly the rest of the season, it’s now time for the moody backup Martellus Bennett to earn his stats.
The New England Patriots have the next man up philosophy and will truly need to believe in that system come Sunday as Tom Brady and Co take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are stingy against the pass when it comes to TEs as they have only surrendered 467 yards and 4 touchdowns on 46 receptions. That may sound daunting but Brady is not your average QB.[embedit snippet=”2″]
If Bennett can get one-on-one coverage with an LB I will put my money on Bennett. See, the Rams play in a division where there are not too many good TEs, and while Bennett is not a household name he is a vet that can still find a crease in the defense and exploit it. Plus, he knows this is his time to shine with Gronk gone for eight weeks. So, he needs to impress Brady and Belichick.
What makes this matchup favorable for Bennett is the fact that the corners will press the line of scrimmage trying to stop what will be a heavy dose of LeGarrette Blount. If Blunt is able to break loose early that will open the door for Bennett to have a huge game and if he doesn’t then look for Brady to air it out with short passes to Edelman and Bennett.
Start or Sit Martellus Bennett? I will start him.
