This may very well be the game of his life. How will Scott Tolzien do against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday?

Tolzien will take over for the injured Andrew Luck in a game that is huge for both teams. The Indianapolis Colts and the Steelers are both 5-5 and are in dire need of a win if they wish to keep their fading playoff chances alive. The pressure is squarely on Tolzien’s shoulders as he may be forced to play without the service of receiver Sidney Moncrief.

But, the bigger question is, how will a player that hasn’t had any real action since 2013 do against a defense that will throw everything at him but the kitchen sink? Tolzien has played in 6 games, threw 91 passes for 721 yards, 1 touchdown, and 5 interceptions during his career. To say he will be a tad rusty is an understatement.

I guess you can take the approach that he had time to study under Andrew luck but, at the same time he was an understudy to Aaron Rodgers as well. So, that means absolutely nothing. In order for Tolzien to be successful, the Colts must run the ball effectively first to set up the play action. But the main issue may not be the Steelers defense, it’s the lack of chemistry he will have with the offensive unit.

For a player to get thrown into the fire like this, it will take some time before he’s able to shake the cobwebs loose. The Steelers have one of the best offenses in the NFL and they have the ability to strike fast and often. That may not sit too well with the Colts as a team but from a fantasy standpoint, this may do well for you as an owner.

If the Colts are forced to play from behind, that means they will abandon the ground game and look to air it out. The Steelers are not the best defensive team in the league and it’s rather possible Tolzien can put up garbage yards. The Steelers rank 26th in the NFL in passing yards allowed with 278 yards per game. If Tolzien can connect with T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle he may have a chance to make his owners very happy.

Do you start or sit Tolzien in your Fantasy Football league? He’s not ready for a game of this magnitude. He must be benched.
