Will Fuller burst onto the scene this season and was one of the big stories early in fantasy football circles, as he went for 211 yards and a score in his first two career games. There was much concern and gnashing of teeth about what this meant for Nuk Hopkins, and much optimism about what he would be able to do with all these opportunities.[embedit snippet=”jeff-ads”]

This week the Texans take on the Denver Broncos in Brock Osweiler’s homecoming to the team he shunned in favor of Houston in a tough matchup for both Fuller and Hopkins.

After his 211 and a score in his first two games, Fuller has had the inconsistent production many thought he would have: boom-bust. He has a Ted Ginn profile, drops included, and he has shown every bit of that this season. He had his two massive games, and then 31 yards, 81 and a score and 4 yards in his next three games.

So, in five games he’s gone boom, boom, bust, boom, bust.

You’ll notice Fuller has only five-game logs, and has been active for six. Last weekend, Fuller was active for their contest against Indianapolis, but did not play. He was dealing with a hamstring that is still giving him grief, so playing him on Monday Night Football makes for a risky proposition. If he suffers a setback in warmups, you’re left with the likes of Jaelen Strong to try to plug that hole.

His injury makes it too risky to try to rely on him on MNF given how boom-bust he has been thus far this season.

Then the opponent, oh the opponent. Forget that the Broncos defenders have talked all about how they know every aspect of Osweiler and are ready to shred him apart. The Denver Broncos are literally the best in the league at shutting down wide receivers, and let’s not forget that Fuller is the second receiver on the Texans.

After Kelvin Benjamin’s 6/91/1 on Thursday Night Football to open the season, only two wide receivers have gotten over five fantasy points against the Broncos: Mike Evans and A.J. Green. Green has the high-water mark for opposing WRs after week one with 7.7 fantasy points. The Broncos defense absolutely destroys opposing wide receivers to the point that it took 11 targets each to Evans and Green for them to break 50 yards. Fuller won’t be the one in the Texans’ offense breaking double-digit targets.

Fuller has been boom-bust, and is nursing an injury going into week seven. If that isn’t enough, the Texans take on the best defense in the NFL with something to prove against Brock Osweiler, his quarterback. In games where the Broncos haven’t tried to prove they are better off without their former quarterback, they have obliterated opposing wide receivers.

Oh, and he may not even be available for Monday Night Football. Stay far, far away from Will Fuller this week.
