I am a big proponent of streaming tight ends in fantasy football until you find one you can stick with for the rest of the year. And if you can’t do that, it’s no big deal. Every week tight ends with positive matchups are available for free on the waiver wire. This strategy is one that will do well for you as the season progresses, as it means that you didn’t use a premium pick in the draft, a high waiver priority or a chunk of your FAAB budget on the position. Jacob Tamme versus Carolina (46% owned)
Tamme has quickly become a target monster for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons, as he is tied with Julio Jones for the team lead thus far this season with 20. The 20 targets puts him as the eighth-most targeted tight end in the league this season, and he has turned that into 154 yards and a score. He would probably have more touchdowns, but the double trouble Falcons backfield is sopping them all up. The Falcons take on a stout front seven that will force the Falcons to go through the air to score touchdowns, and that has Tamme all over it. The Panthers have allowed seventy yards and a touchdown to a tight end in their last two games. If you’re desperate, Tamme is worth a look.
Hunter Henry versus New Orleans (21% owned)
If Antonio Gates is out, Tamme is likely the most talented streaming tight end option available this week, and he gets the opportunity to shine in an extremely plus matchup. Last week, Henry showed why the Chargers used an early draft pick on him, hauling in 3-of-5 targets for 75 yards. He did fumble, and he failed to find the end zone, but you like that production on just five targets. This week he takes on a Saints squad that has done extremely well defending the tight end this season, but no tight end had more than five targets against them. With a depleted passing corps and an offense built around tossing it to the tight end, Henry will get plenty of opportunities. Not much has changed in New Orleans, and they allowed the most fantasy points per game to tight ends last year. I would bet for Henry to have a decent game; the 75 yards Henry gained last week would be a good bet for this week.
Cameron Brate versus Denver (9% owned)
Now that Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a Jet, there is little competition in the Buccaneers tight end groups to take targets away from Brate. So far this season, the Tampa Bay tight end group has scored 12.9 fantasy points per game, second in the NFL. And now that Brate has the lion’s share of targets, he will have the lion’s share of production. This week he takes on a Denver defense that is relatively neutral, but positive-leaning towards the tight end this year. Greg Olsen managed 73 yards on his nine targets, but no other tight end this year has gotten more than five against the Broncos, so there is little production there. Brate will get a ton of targets this week as Jameis Winston leans on Mike Evans and the tight end.
