The Flash

The shows of the Arrowverse have officially crossed over into the second half of their respective seasons. For the CW’s most popular shows within the Universe, The Flash, this Tuesday will mark the twelveth episode of season three with an episode titled, “Untouchable”.

Last week’s episode put a lot of emphasis on Cisco and H.R. When Gypsy arrived from Earth-19, she was there to take the man she viewed as a criminal back to their home and face the punishment of death. But luckily for H.R. and team Flash, Cisco stepped up in a battle to the death and was able to take down Gypsy. He spared her life, in hopes of landing a date down the line, and I know I am not the only one hoping she returns in the near future.

But this week is set to put some more focus on Iris and Wally. The episode description is as followed, courtesy of comingsoon.net.

“Barry and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs work together to bring down Clive Yorkin (guest star Matthew Kevin Anderson), a criminal meta-human who is methodically killing people by causing them to decompose at an accelerated rate. Joe becomes his next target but it’s Iris who is caught in the crossfire. The Flash mentors Kid Flash and begins to elevate the newer speedster’s training to another level.”

And before we get into more about this episode, here is the trailer as well.

So it looks like Wally is going to be pressed into action following some more hands on training. But when Iris becomes “infected” thanks to Yorkin, it looks like Wally will be blaming himself. Now, let’s take a closer look at some questions we have about this episode.

Is this the week Joe learns about Iris’ potential death?

So one of the biggest secrets being held on The Flash is the one that sees everyone except Joe knowing Iris is set to die unless they can change the future. This withholding of information will surely have some ramifications on the relationship between Barry and Joe, and very possibly Joe’s trust in everyone, including Wally and Iris as well.

With the trailer putting Iris in trouble and potentially on death’s doorstep, one has to wonder, will Barry feel confident that he can save her since he knows she is supposed to make it to May? This could lead to everyone not being as concerned as they should be when Iris becomes “infected” by Yorkin, while Joe is freaking out. This could be the thing that leads to Joe figuring out something is up. And if he does in fact learn about Iris’ upcoming fate, how exactly will he react?

How will Wally be affected after not being able to save Iris?

From the trailer, Wally appears to be upset with himself, claiming he was not fast enough to save his sister. But will this have any sort of lasting impact on the youngest West? It could serve as extra motivation moving forward, once Iris survives the scare. But it could also serve as a moment that Wally looks back on and loses confidence in himself.

This could be a crucial moment for Wally’s character. He is well on his way to becoming Flash’s true sidekick. If he becomes discouraged by these events, it will take some work to help him get back to where he is now. Right now he is the ultra-confident kid who feels like he can do anything. That is one of his best attributes in making him a true hero. Bringing him back down to Earth in a sense will serve as a roadblock that every hero must overcome in their time fighting crime.

How will phasing through an object come into play down the road?

There are always subtle moments in earlier episodes of television shows that come back to play a critical role in the most climactic moments of a season. One potential example was last week when Gypsy literally stopped Wally in his tracks using her powers. Could either Gypsy or Vibe/Cisco use that little trick later in the year against Savitar? Very possible.

That brings us to this week, where it appears Barry will be trying to teach Wally to phase through objects. Based on him running into a wall during the trailer, and H.R. pointing it out despite it being super obvious to everyone, things are not going to come super easily to Kid Flash. But these struggles will ultimately lead to Wally learning to do exactly what Barry wants him to accomplish. And something tells me it will play a crucial role in the final battle against Savitar to save Iris. I just do not know how exactly.

So there you have it, three episodes about this week’s episode of The Flash. What questions do you have leading up to this Tuesday on the CW? Tell us in the comments!
