Valuable Vets

Pierre Garcon

The only other year Pierre Garcon reached over 1,000 yards was in 2013 and in 2015, Garcon surpassed that again operating under the Sean McVay offense with Kirk Cousins at the helm. With Garcon and Desean Jackson both pending free agents at 30 years old, Jay Gruden has to at least keep one to maintain the offensive core that was lethal in 2015. Garcon has said statements saying he would love to stay in Washington but so far, there have not been any updates on a new contract as they are unsure which free agent wide receiver is worth keeping. Garcon could be a nice experienced possession receiver that can move the chains on a consistent basis. Teams to look out for who could make the move; the Ravens, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys, Niners, but especially the Rams would make sense. With McVay leaving Washington to become head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, the ties are there and a veteran receiver that has played in McVay’s offense would help Jared Goff and the offense.

DeSean Jackson

Another 30-year-old wide receiver that produced over 1,000 yards in Sean McVay’s offense could be the one let go out of the two pending free agent wideouts. Jackson is still explosive at his age and is a deep threat on the field. Jackson going back to the Eagles would be a great match but other teams that could look at Jackson include the Niners, Titans, Rams, and the Buccaneers; all teams that need a deep threat option. Jackson could be resigned but then Garcon staying too would be minimal.

Honorable Mentions:

Vincent Jackson– After an ACL injury in 2016, the 34-year-old receiver could hit free agency. Although he is a big target that can be used in the red zone, I am not sure if he can fully recover from that injury at an old age. Jackson could get suitors like Boldin did last year and sign a 1-year deal with teams that need a big target in their offense.

Victor Cruz- Recently cut by the Giants, Cruz could be a value as a slot receiver but questions about health and age could make teams pass on a veteran receiver.

Anquan Boldin- Producing 8 touchdowns for the Lions with around 584 yards, Boldin will likely be resigned for another 1-year deal or maybe could retire if he does not want to play anymore as he is 36 years old.

Brandon Lafell- Quietly amassing 862 yards and 6 touchdowns, Lafell had a good year as the #2 receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. I think the Bengals will resign him ultimately for a 1 or 2-year deal and have him as the #2 receiver or as experienced depth.
