The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fall to Tulsa 8-7 Thursday night. The intense matchup saw five total lead changes, with only three of the nine frames showing 0 runs. After taking their third-straight loss, the RoughRiders now sit at 38-46 on the season.

Tulsa’s Jose Fernandez blasted a go-ahead, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth against the RoughRiders starter-turned-reliever Connor Sadzeck to give the Drillers an 8-7 lead. Fernandez also delivered a go-ahead, three-run home run in the sixth, erasing a 5-3 deficit. Jose Cardona’s RBI double in the eighth broke a 6-6 tie to give the Riders a 7-6 advantage after Royce Bolinger’s RBI groundout tied the game in the seventh. Luis Marte’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth broke a 3-3 tie to put the Riders in front 5-3.

In total, the RoughRiders went 3-14 with runners in scoring position, leaving nine men on base.

Ariel Jurado tossed six innings for the RoughRiders. He allowed eight hits and six runs (all earned) while walking one and striking out four. Sadzeck gave up three hits and two runs (all earned), striking out three in his two innings of work. He took the decision, a loss, and is now 4-6 so far this season.

  • Luis Marte continued his recent surge with a home run Thursday. The Riders infielder is hitting .478 (11-23) during his current six-game hitting streak.
  • Michael De Leon recorded his second three-hit game and 18th multiple-hit performance.
  • Scott Heineman extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a walk in the top of the seventh inning.
  • The Drillers have scored 15 of their 20 runs in this series in the sixth inning or later.

The final matchup of the series will take place Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from ONEOK Field in Tulsa, OK. The RoughRiders will send Tyler Davis (0-0, 1.50 ERA) to the hill. He’ll battle against Andrew Sopko (1-4, 3.74 ERA).
