The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, take a shutout loss against the Tulsa Drillers Friday night, 6-0. Drillers starting pitcher Walker Buehler limited the RoughRiders to just two hits in 5 1/3 innings. Frisco starter Cody Palmquist was chased off after just three innings, after giving up eight hits and six runs (all earned).
Ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, Drillers’ Buehler played the part. His fastball didn’t drop below 95 MPH and it often touched 99 MPH. The curveball had an excellent 12-6 movement that aided in his seven total strikeouts. Over his 5 1/3 innings, he walked just one, struck out seven, and gave up two hits.
The Frisco RoughRiders could not figure Buehler out. They were caught swinging late or just looking on several occasions. Only four Frisco batters got hits in the game. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Juremi Profar, Luis Marte, and Michael De Leon were the few managed hits. The club left six runners on base and hit 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
Cody Palmquist, who has made the move from reliever to starter, walked none and struck out four. He was responsible for giving up all six of Tulsa’s runs. He took the loss and now sits at 1-1 on the season. Joe Filomeno relieved Palmquist and allowed just two hits over 2.0 innings pitched. He walked one and struck out three. Brady Feigl, Clayton Cook, and Nick Gardewine all combined for four innings, three hits, one walk, and three punch outs.
