The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fall to the Midland RockHounds Wednesday night, 11-3. The series finale win gave the RockHounds the sweep in the three-game series. For the second-straight game, Midland was able to score runs early and maintain the lead.

For the RoughRiders offense, Jose Trevino, Michael O’Neill, and Royce Bolinger all finished with two hits. Jose Cardona ended his night 0-2 but had two RBIs in the outing. Juremi Profar also had one RBI, on a groundout. The team left four men on base in the game, hitting a disappointing 1-5 with runners in scoring position.

Viosergy Rosa led the Midland bats. Coming into the matchup, Rosa led the entire Texas League in RBIs. He added to that total, driving in three runs Wednesday night. He now sits at 84 runs batted in on the year. Tyler Ramirez and J.P. Sportman had solo home runs, and Sean Murphy hit a two-run long ball that helped cushion the lead of the Oakland Athletics affiliate.

Texas Rangers top prospect Yohander Mendez earned the loss. The lefty now sits at 7-7 on the season. He tossed just 2.1 innings, getting lit up for seven hits and five runs (all earned). Mendez had one punch out in his time on the hill. Ryne Slack relieved Mendez, going 1.2 innings. He gave up two hits and two runs (unearned). Clayton Cook pitched just 1/3 of an inning. He was taken for two hits and three runs, walking three batters along the way.

Joe Filomeno was the shining light for the RoughRiders pitching staff. Filomeno threw 1.2 innings of perfect baseball, striking one in his time on the mound. Connor Sadzeck finished out the matchup for Frisco. He tossed two innings, allowing two hits and one run (earned), striking out two and giving up a home run.

  • With two more hits Wednesday, Michael O’Neill went 5-8 in the final two games of the series and extended his hitting streak to five games.
  • Jose Trevino picked up his 11th multi-hit game in his past 28 contests.
  • Luke Tendler extended his on-base streak to 14 games with a sixth-inning walk.
  • The RockHounds swept the three-game series, outscoring Frisco 31-6. On its current six-game win streak, Midland has scored 62 runs.

The Frisco RoughRiders are set to begin a four-game series against the first place San Antonio Missions, the affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Game one of the matchup will take Thursday night, at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. The RoughRiders will start top prospect Ariel Jurado (7-8, 4.84 ERA). He’ll face Cal Quantrill (0-1, 3.75 ERA) of the Missions.
