Frisco RoughRiders: Royce Bolinger Goes Deep, Missions Win

The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fall to the San Antonio Missions 6-1 Thursday night. Royce Bolinger homered in the seventh, accounting for Frisco’s only run. The Missions took no time manhandling righty Tyler Davis. After back-to-back losses, the RoughRiders are now 40-50 this season.

The RoughRiders were lacking in offensive performance, allowing the Missions starting pitcher to go seven innings. Across those seven, Frisco managed just three hits. In total, four of the nine RoughRiders batters got hits. The club went 0-2 with runners in scoring position, leaving five men on base. Bolinger and his home run were the only offense to watch in the matchup.

Davis earned his first decision, a loss, since being promoted to Double-A. He pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs (all earned). He walked none and struck out just one batter. Joe Filomeno relieved Davis, pitching one inning of perfect baseball, striking out two. Clayton Cook also tossed an inning of perfect baseball. Nick Gardewine closed out the pitching duties for the RoughRiders, allowing one hit and one run (earned), over one inning of work.

News and notes from RidersBaseball.com:

  • Each of the last three meetings between the Riders and Missions has been decided by at least four runs after all of the first 15 meetings were settled by three runs or fewer.
  • Riders pitchers have not allowed a walk in 20 1/3 innings.
  • Frisco relievers lost a 9 1/3-inning scoreless streak when San Antonio scored a run in the ninth.

The Frisco RoughRiders will take on the Missions again Friday night. Game three of the four-game set is scheduled to start at 7:05 PM at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

Up and coming pitcher Collin Wiles (7-5, 3.63 ERA) will start for the RoughRiders. He’ll go head-to-head with lefty Eric Lauer (1-0, 1.42 ERA).
