The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, lost to the Arkansas Travelers Wednesday night, 10-9 in extra innings. The matchup was a back-and-forth affair, ending in a RoughRiders defeat in the 10th inning. Tyler Marlette hit the go-ahead solo home run in the top of the 10th inning, and the RoughRiders were unable to rally. Frisco has now lost two-straight to the Seattle Mariners affiliate, and are looking to avoid a sweep in their next matchup.

In an uncharacteristic showing, RoughRiders starting pitcher Collin Wiles was completely run over. In just 5.1 innings, Wiles allowed seven runs (all earned) off nine hits. He didn’t walk any batters but was only able to punch out two. Wiles didn’t look like his normal self in the matchup, and it cost the club. The bullpen wasn’t much better. Shane McCain, Joe Filomeno, and Nick Gardewine all combined to allow eight hits and three runs.

Luis Marte hit a monster grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting Frisco up 7-5. Jose Cardona kept the RoughRiders in the game offensively. Up to bat with two outs in the eighth inning, Cardona launched a massive triple that scored two runs. It evened the game up at 9-9, keeping Frisco in the mix. Scott Heineman also had a noteworthy night, going 4-4 with two doubles, one RBI, and a walk.

News and notes from RidersBaseball.com:

  • Luis Marte’s grand slam in the fifth inning was the first slam for the RoughRiders since Alberto Triunfel hit one July 11, 2016, against Northwest Arkansas.
  • Scott Heineman recorded his second four-hit game of the season, recording two doubles and two singles.
  • The Texas Rangers announced Wednesday that reliever Jake Diekman is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Thursday in the series finale against Arkansas.
