In what many highlighted as one of the top cards of this year, Madison Square Garden displayed an event, promoted by K2 that spotlighted one of the top fighters in the world. In an event that highlighted Andy Lee, Ryan Martin, Carlos Cuadras, and the main event Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs. The fight started out normal and then we go to the top two fights of the fight. After easy Ryan Martin and Carlos Cuadra’s easy wins, in the co-main event Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez faced Wisaksil Wanget and it highlighted the night.

In the fight between Chocolatito and Wanget, a surprised early knockdown by Wanget started the fight off in a very interesting start. Chocolatito realized he was in a war and started attacking Wanget. It was one of the most exciting fights of the night. Chocolatito seemed to control most of the rounds in between. However, when it was over, we got a surprise decision of Wanget was the new WBC World Super flyweight champion. Wisakil Wanget had defeated Roman Gonzalez by a controversial card by majority decision  114-112, 114-112, and 113-113.

We then moved on to the main event. Most people expected GGG win over Jacobs. That was further from the truth, as Jacobs, not only put up a fight but more than a few people think Jacobs won on the scorecards. As it went to the 12 round, I had Jacobs up one round and everyone waiting on the edge of their chairs. With everyone in anticipation, a GGG win by decision 115-112, 115-112, 114-113.

In the end, it was a close fight that I thought could have gone either way. Arguably Gennady Golovkin pulled it out slightly but it was legitimately a toss-up fight. Next, up, it would be great if we have a rematch. But it’s likely a Gennady Golovkin fight against BJ Saunders. Which is still rumored to have a date of June 10 in Kazakhstan. At this point, whether they actually fight each other is a mystery. One thing is clear, this will not be the last time we see either Golovkin or Jacobs. At any rate, the future is bright for both of these men in this fight game. One thing is for sure, this likely is the not the last fight we see between these two great middleweights
