Hip-Hop: Why 50 Cent’s 21 Questions is true relationship test

Never in a million years did I think I would be taking relationship advice from Hip-Hop artist 50 Cent. But after listening to his 21 Questions for the millionth time, it dawned on me. He may have something here. Let’s break down some of the lyrics and see how they relate to a relationship and see if Curtis is the new Steve Harvey.

If I fell off tomorrow, would you still love me?
If I didn’t smell so good, would you still hug me?
If I got locked up and sentenced to a quarter century
Could I count on you to be there to support me mentally?

Simple questions asked to a woman but never a simple answer. But I would like to know. If I was getting money, either by legal or illegal ways and the cash flow stopped, would you still have my back? This is normal in a relationship. When times are good, they are great but if a man falls on hard times then we get to see if the love is real. I’ve never been sentenced to a quarter century but when I was locked up there was a woman holding me down my entire sentence.

If I went back to a hoopty from a Benz
Would you poof and disappear like some of my friends?
If I was hit and I was hurt, would you be by my side?
If it was time to put in work, would you be down to ride?
I get out and peel a nigga cap, chill and drive

Material things are just that. They come and go just as fast as they came. If I was injured would you be there to nurse me back to health? If times are hard and I look to you and say let’s hit this bank, what will your response be? If you’re with me then I need you to be with me 100 percent.

I’m asking questions to find out how you feel inside
If I ain’t rap ‘cause I flip burgers at Burger King
Would you be ashamed to tell your friends you’re feeling me?
In the bed, if I used my tongue, would you like that?
If I wrote you a love letter, would you write back?
Now we can have a little drink, you know, a nightcap
And we could go do what you like, I know you like that

Why do women look down on a man for having a job? It doesn’t matter what the job is, as long as he does his best and treats you right that’s all you should worry about. No need to be ashamed of what he does. What ever happened to the old-fashioned form of communication? Put the phones down for a minute and work some things out. I don’t mind leaving you a poem on the refrigerator door for you to see in the morning.

Now, would you leave me
If your father found out I was thugging?
Do you believe me when I tell you, “You the one I’m loving”?

I know a father’s words goes a long way in the type of man his daughter dates but just know if my lifestyle becomes an issue I will stop. If I say that I love you, I mean it. You will never have a need to question it.

Are you mad ‘cause I’m asking you 21 questions?
Are you my soulmate? ‘Cause if so, girl, you a blessing
Do you trust me enough to tell me your dreams?
I’m staring at you, trying to figure how you got in them jeans

We should be able to tell each other anything. No secrets here. If I’m asking you questions that means I’m interested. When I stop asking that’s when you need to start worrying.

If I was down, would you say things to make me smile?
I’ll treat you how you want to be treated, just teach me how
If I was with some other chick and someone happened to see
And when you asked me about it I said it wasn’t me
Would you believe me or up and leave me?
How deep is our bond if that’s all it takes for you to be gone?
We only humans, girl, we make mistakes
To make it up, I’ll do whatever it take
I love you like a fat kid love cake
You know my style, I say anything to make you smile

Contrary to what society will have  you believe we as men have our bad days where we feel the walls are closing in on us. All we want is a partner to make us feel that we will survive that. If you can do that, you have our loyalty. Just because some other female or some jealous guy runs and tell you they saw me with another female DOES NOT mean that it’s true. But if that’s all it takes for you to leave then I was better off without out. Nothing is easy in life, especially a relationship. But if it’s true and I messed up best believe that I will do whatever it takes to get us back to where we were. I’m human.

50 came through with a nice song. It may not be LL Cool J’s I Need Love but he asked some interesting questions. Women feel that men don’t or can’t express themselves good enough or even at all. But we can, we just need the right person to bring it out of us.
