Colin Kaepernick. This person has to be one of the most talked about players in the offseason. Is the NFL blackballing him? On the other hand, is just a simple case of money? Whatever the case, he is an available free agent QB. Will he catch on with a team? Sure, he will. In fact, the Houston Texans are showing interest in him right now.

The Houston Texans are in need of a quarterback. They are the lone team associated with Tony Romo. What happens if Romo does not come through? Then what will the Texans do? This is one reason why I see the pursuit of Colin Kaepernick as a smart move.

Kaepernick still has a lot left in the tank. He sat out almost all of 2015 with an injury. He played in only 11 games in 2016. Also, he still well into his prime considering he is only 29-years-old. Why would a team not take a chance on him?

Reports are that Colin Kaepernick wants somewhere in the $9 million per year range and a chance to start for the team that signs him. If a team is bringing him in to be the starting QB this is not that high of a demand. However, if he is only under consideration for a backup spot, this is somewhat of salary pinch.

Houston makes complete sense for Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick also makes sense for the Houston Texans. The Houston Texans need a starting QB. Colin Kaepernick wants a chance to start. The Texans have the salary cap space. Kaepernick could fit in the cap structure. All of this plays in the favor of both the team and the player.

Another factor that makes the most sense for the Houston Texans and Colin Kaepernick is the head coach. Bill O’Brien is one of the greater QB coaches in the NFL. Even though he could not do good things for Brock Osweiler. In O’Brien’s’ defense, there was only a seven game tape on Osweiler. There is a much more to work with when it comes to coaching Colin Kaepernick. Again, an advantage for both player and team.

The NFL and its owners are not blackballing Colin Kaepernick. This is a more a matter of want versus need. Many teams do not need a QB. The teams that do just did not want Kaepernick. Consequently, the Houston Texans are a team a team of both. Thus, Colin Kaepernick may be their best choice.

  1. Two very big reasons that won’t happen. Frankly I’m surprised you writers haven’t figured this out.

One – Texas is a deep red state and supports its police and military. We do not like chumps who either do not show respect for the nation, or are wild-eyed activists. Kaepernick would be immediately hated by large percentage of Texans fans, who would rather cheer Savage and lose more games than boo Kaepernick and maybe win a couple more.

Two – McNair has throughout been a guy that said character matters. Kaepernick would be a distraction and that won’t cut it.

That said, IF I am wrong here, and the Texans sign that idiot, I will forever drop my support for my home team, and probably the NFL.

    1. Thank you for reading.

it could be a strong possibility. McNair screwed up with the Osweiler signing. I think he knows that. I could see him asking the opinion of his head coach and going with it. Something he did not do with Osweiler. O’Brien would be a great coach for Kaepernick no matter the type of state that Texas is.

      Again, thank you for reading/
