If you have been struggling with dry skin, you know very well how uncomfortable it can get. Apart from flaking and cracking, you can also end up constantly scratching your skin and that can be really embarassing.

Fortunately, however, dry skin isn’t always a sign of a more serious condition. In most cases, it can be easily solved by changing some of your products or improving a few of your habits.

Dry skin can happen when you use products that don’t fit your skin type.

Harsh soaps, for example, can strip your skin’s natural oils and barrier. This can make your skin vulnerable to damage and even bacteria.

Taking hot shower is bad for the skin as well. Like soaps, hot water has the tendency to leave the skin dry and dehydrated, especially if you spend a long time showering.

Your environment can play a role in your skin’s behavior, too. When you are constantly exposed to dry air, such as when you’re blasting the AC or during the cold season, moisture gets drawn out from your skin.

To prevent itching and irritation, you should also be picky with the types of clothes you wear. Stick with fabrics with natural fibers, like cotton and silk, as they feel soft and smooth to the skin.

Skip wools and linens as they are rough and can cause itching.

Another good tip in relieving dry skin is to use a moisturizer with great hydrating properties. Creams and moisturizers with hyaluronic acid are great options for the ingredient’s ability to draw moisture and keep it locked in the skin.

It’s also a great help in keeping the skin supple and youthful-looking by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
