Jacolby Hewitt is a three-star wide receiver in the 2018 college football recruiting class and is committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. He is an extremely talented receiver that Indiana hopes will be able to take its offense to new heights. There is no denying that he has the potential to be a star at the next level.
According to his Max Preps page, Hewitt has had a big senior season at Cordova High School in Tennessee. He has caught 40 passes for 795 yards and 11 touchdowns. Indiana fans should be excited for the future.
Standing in at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Hewitt could very well be the best target that Indiana has had in a long time. He is known for making big plays with his athleticism, especially in jump ball situations.
It has been awhile since the Hoosiers were viewed as a contender in the Big Ten. Hewitt is hoping to be able to help change that and get Indiana back on track. New head coach Tom Allen has his work cut out for him, but bringing in a player like Hewitt will help him jumpstart the rebuild.

Hewitt had a lot of interest outside of Indiana. He received offers from schools like Purdue, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Memphis. Being able to get a commitment from Hewitt was a big win for the Hoosiers.
Our very own Evan Massey had a chance to sit down with Hewitt and discuss many different things.
First on the agenda, was to find out what Indiana had to offer that drew the commitment from Hewitt.
“I feel like it was a great place to be for the next four years and I love the coaches. They are great people and the atmosphere was great and it felt like a family. It is the best fit for me.”
Hewitt then went on to talk about his game and if you haven’t seen him play, this will give you an idea of what he brings to the table.
“I feel like my game is good and it’s getting even better as I work on my craft. My biggest strengths are my hands, feet, work off the line, getting off man press, and going up for the ball at the highest point. Also, catching in traffic and my speed. My weaknesses are my route running. I have to get better on running crisp routes.”
What is Hewitt like when he’s not playing football? He was happy to talk about what he is like away from the game.
“I feel like I’m a guy that you can be around all the time. I’m playful at times but serious when I need to be and I’m just fun to be around. I like to be around my family because they are the reason I play football.”
Hewitt talked about the 2018 recruiting class and his hope that they can get Indiana back to contention.
“I feel like the class of 2018 is going to be a special class. There is great talent in our class. I believe we can help IU get back on track.”
There are quite a few goals that Hewitt has talked about, both team and individually oriented for his career at Indiana.
“I want to leave IU as a great person and I want to become one of the greatest wide receivers of all-time in college and get to an even higher level.”
Every fan likes to hear comparisons for players. Hewitt believes that he compares somewhat to a current NFL star.
“I feel like my game is similar to Dez Bryant, because he is a physical wide receiver and goes up at the highest point and I feel like I do the same.”
If you’re a young wide receiver with dreams of playing college football, Hewitt dropped some advice.
“In order to get what you want in life and if that is being a football player with D1 goals, you need these things to accomplish those goals.
- Drive to be the best
- Hard work and dedication
- Be strong minded and do your work in school”
Closing out the interview, Hewitt left a message for Indiana fans.
“Get ready for some great year to come!”
Needless to say, Hewitt is a very smart player and has the potential to help change Indiana for the better. We encourage you to give him a follow on Twitter as he takes the next step in his career. His Twitter account is @JacolbyDeshun.
