Andrew Luck is entering his 3rd straight season with injuries, and this season may consist of him missing the first 6 games. Luck underwent shoulder surgery back in January and he may miss the first six games of the season because of it. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora didn’t help ease the fears of Indianapolis Colts fans when he reported on Tuesday that he’s “heard plenty of rumblings about [Luck] starting the year on the physically unable to perform list.”

In 2016, Colin Kaepernick had the 17th best QBR in the league at 90.7. Just 8 spots behind the Colts quarterback Andrew Luck who had a total QBR of 96.4. The question isn’t whether or not, Colin Kaepernick is as good as Andrew Luck on the field, but if Kaepernick would be a good option for the Indianapolis Colts to rely on to get away from the fear of not having Andrew Luck for the first 6 games to start the 2017 season.
He started 11 games last season, completing 196 of his 331 passes for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions, and he added 69 runs for 468 yards and two touchdowns. He did so on a 49ers team that finished the season 2-14, and whose leading receiver (Jeremy Kerley) caught 64 passes for 667 yards and three touchdowns.
As of now, the Colts would be forced to rely on backup quarterback Scott Tolzien who has played just 9 games throughout his career. Throughout his 9 games, Tolzien has completed just 79 passes on 128 attempts with 2 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Tolzien isn’t quite the franchise quarterback that most teams or fan bases would want to rely on for the first half of a critical season for your organization.
With the questions on defense and the fear that is seen through Indianapolis regarding Andrew Luck, the Colts may have no option but to find a reliable quarterback who can produce the first 6 games of the season and a former super bowl quarterback may just make sense.
