Desperate for ratings as the Holiday Season usually spells doom for the WWE, they pulled Vince McMahon out of Santa’s sack this past Monday night on Raw and came up big time!
Perhaps even bigger than the appearance of the 70 year old owner was the emergence of the new face of WWE, Roman Reigns finally getting his hands on the long coveted WWE World Heavyweight Title.
It is a sure thing that this reign will last longer than his past stint with the belt that lasted all of 5 minutes and 15 seconds.
With John Cena still on the sidelines, and their two biggest draws Undertaker and Brock Lesnar only working limited dates, the WWE knew they needed a full time baby face monster to carry the weight, Roman was their man!
After current MVP Seth Rollins went down to injury, the WWE creative team had to think fast and finally pulled the trigger on the long awaited Roman Reigns title run.
They hope to establish the kind of popularity with him that they got with Daniel Bryan when he won the title back at Wrestlemania 30 in 2014. It will be interesting to see if Reigns can get that kind of momentum.
His promo skills have improved, but will still need a great deal of work to get them where they need to be. His rings skills and look have been great, he has shown he can carry a match when needed.
He has the bad ass look the men kind can behind and the rugged good looks the women can take favor in and the family heritage long time wrestling fans can get behind.
He just needs a good heal to work with, again with Rollins out, the smart money is on Triple H stepping into that role as they have already teased it perfectly heading into Mania.
With Lesnar, Taker, Orton, Rollins, Cena and Bryan all on the sidelines, it is now or never for Reigns!
