In the end, money talks. It looks as though the Jacksonville Jaguars are fulfilling their promise to build a winner in the Doug Marrone/Tom Coughlin/David Caldwell era. News broke Wednesday night that former Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell will sign with the team. Adding an edge rusher the franchise needs. The move could also mean the team will take a long, hard look at either LSU’s Jamal Adams, a top-end safety or running back Leonard Fournette, who played with Adams in college or Davin Cook of LSU.

It was also announced on Wednesday the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to have secured the services of former Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church.

There may be more holes to fill on the Jaguars’ roster. However, you have to like what the team is doing now that it has a new brain trust in place.

As told by ESPN.com, Campbell, 30, flourished in 2016 with the addition of Chandler Jones to the Cardinals’ front seven. He put together one of the best all-around seasons of his career during a contract year. He had eight sacks, 53 tackles, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and an interception. That INT he returned for a touchdown.

After making the Pro Bowl in consecutive seasons, Campbell, whose eight sacks tied for the second most of his career and were the most since the nine he had in 2013, was chosen as an alternate following the 2016 campaign.

These moves might be the start of a busy opening day of free agency for Jacksonville. The Jags are a team with one of the largest amounts of money to spend this offseason. They are a franchise that must fill holes and find depth on both offense and defense.

Church left the Cowboys to replace Johnathan Cyprien, who was allowed to test the free-agent market. He has his best season in the league since being drafted in 2013. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Wednesday the deal for Church is believed to be for four years. He is to make more than $6 million per season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars more than likely won’t be done there as they have been linked to tight end Martellus Bennett, cornerback AJ Bouye, cornerback Logan Ryan and guard Kevin Zeitler.
