[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Two weeks outside of the NFL Draft, the top expected pick Jameis Winston should have his full focus on realizing his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL.

However, an old problem has once again crept up on him and has left many teams around the NFL continuing to question his moral character.

Normally, this would be one small feature a team would consider when making its selection, however after the debacle of a rookie season former first-round pick Johnny Manziel had, just last year, many teams are starting to place moral character higher on their lists of traits to grade for.

Erica-Kinsman-Jameis-Winston-picOn Friday, Winston was served with a lawsuit filed by Erica Kinsman, a former Florida State student who accused the quarterback of raping her in 2012. Among the claims in the suit against the Florida State Quarterback are alleged sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress arising out of forcible rape.

He cannot be incarcerated for this as he has already beaten the rape charge earlier this year; in fact it never even reached court. However, this charge could cost him in excess of $15,000 to be determined in a jury trial.

In the grand scheme, $15,000 for a NFL player is not that much, but with his entry into the league being so hyped, this is not the kind of black mark and distraction he would want to start his career with.

As mentioned before, Winston never was charged in criminally for the alleged rape, the school didn’t even punish him for it. The file is out of nowhere as this case has been closed for quite some time.

It is because of the odd timing that Winston’s lawyer David Cornwell is on record stating that if Kinsman pushes forward with the suit, that they will counter sue for extortion and defamation of character.

With the NFL Draft roughly two weeks away, Winston is still projected to be the first overall selection of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Do the Bucs pass on him? That’s anyone’s guess as time will tell.
