Jarlin Garcia is off to a solid start as a starter for the Miami Marlins.

Garcia, who led the team last year with 68 relief appearances, has been moved to the starting rotation, a move that has proven to be successful so far. Garcia was on the mound Tuesday night, leading the Marlins to a 9-1 win over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

As Joe Frisaro of MLB.com explained, after covering 10 innings in six days, Garcia finally allowed to hit as a starter. The left-hander making only his second major league start, kept opponents without a hit until a one-out double in the fifth running on Tuesday night. Per Elias Sports Bureau, Garcia’s streak of no hits allowed to start his career as a starting pitcher ties the modern MLB record set in 1953.

Jarlin Garcia’s path to the Marlins began as a starting pitcher in the minor leagues, but he was converted to a reliever at Double-A Jacksonville before he was called up to the show in April of last season.

The performance by Garcia is something the Miami Marlins can build on. Beating the New York Yankees, after losing 12-1the night before, must give manager Don Mattingly and his troops confidence on this current road trip.

“No, I didn’t think about it,” Garcia said of his no-hit streak. “I was just worried about getting out there, doing my job and helping the team win anyway I can.”

Aiding Jarlin Garcia in his performance was the return of catcher J.T. Realmuto, who smacked a three-run homer in his first at bat. Realmuto drove in four runs on the night. The nine runs were a season high for Miami, snapping a three-game losing streak.

“We got a really good start out of Jarlin again,” Mattingly said. “We got some runs early and got him some breathing room, and the guys kept going. Our guys out of the bullpen were pretty good today. It was a pretty good day for us.”
