When it comes who are considered the top wide receivers in the NFL, it is a relatively short list.
Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, DeAndre Hopkins and Odell Beckham Jr. often considered the alpha dogs of the group.
One name that deserves some consideration that no one is talking about is the Miami Dolphins 2014 third-year wide receiver out of LSU in Jarvis Landry.
Landry, a former college teammate of the fore-mentioned—and annoyingly uber-popular Beckham Jr. was taken 63rd overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, has managed to fly completely somehow under the radar when it comes to being mentioned among the NFL’s best.
Since coming into the league as a second-round pick in 2014, Landry has caught an NFL record 195 receptions, the most by a WR in his first two seasons in league history.
After catching 84 passes for 758 yards and five touchdowns his rookie year, Landry would have a breakout year in catching 110 passes for 1,157 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.
And after his seven-catch, 59 yards receiving stat line in a Week 1 opening game 12-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Landry has accumulated an impressive stat line of 201 receptions, 1,974 yards receiving and nine total touchdowns.
Landry also has average yards per catch of almost ten at 9.8 in his three seasons in Miami.
Set to become an even more prominent target in new head coach Adam Gase’s high-octane offense, the 5’11, 206-pound Landry has already established himself as quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s go-to guy. He has an opportunity to take things to the next level in 2016, thanks to having second-year wideout DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills and Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron on the outside to take potential double coverage off of him.
If Landry can somehow maintain last year’s production, do not be surprised if the Dolphins are in the hunt for an AFC Wild Card berth, with the former Bayou Bengal a big reason why, and add his name to the list of top wideouts in the NFL today.
