The Miami Marlins, MLB, fans, friends and family are heart-broken as we have received the news that pitcher,  Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in Miami.

The official report is that he and two of his friends were aboard a boat that was capsized which resulted in loss of life. Our hearts and prayers goes out to his family and the Marlins organization. Hernandez was one of baseball’s brightest young talents and with the Marlins expected to be contenders for years to come, Hernandez was to play a vital role in the at process.

For his career, Hernandez won 38 games with 17 losses, compiled 590 strikeouts, with an ERA of 2.58. He was a two time All-Star in just four major league seasons. He is one of the rare pitchers to make it back from Tommy John surgery and still manage to be productive,  if not better than he was before.

The Marlins were right in the thick of the wild card chase until start player Giancarlo Stanton went down with an injury but the arm of Hernandez was one of the reasons they still managed to stay close to their goal this year.

There were reports that the Yankees and Cubs would be interested in a trade for the young pitcher as they looked to bolster their rotation for the future. Now, none of that is important as the baseball world will now mourn the loss of a player that could have gone down as one of the best in history.

As an organization, the Marlins have suffered thru bad years and a horrific relationship with their fan base but all remaining issues must be put to the side.

I can’t began to fathom what his family, friends, and teammates must be going thru. But as a baseball fan l am devastated at the news I received this morning.

Rest in Peace Jose Fernandez.  Gone but not forgotten.
