Kings of Comedy 2: Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, Katt Williams and Dave Chappelle?

Saturday Night the comedy world was given a gift of sorts with a rare appearance by Dave Chappelle.

Chappelle hosted Saturday Night Live and after his performance, it got me to thinking. What if we were given an encore of the Original Kings of Comedy?

The first wave included Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hugely and the late Bernie Mac. During their historic performance, they each took turns rocking the crowd with so much humor that you were sad the show had to end. But since that performance, there has not been another. There are other great comedians left but to top the original, we need legends.

This is where the Chappelle, Katt Williams, Mike Epps and Kevin Hart comes in. While each has carved their own niche in the industry, they are still stand up comedians first.

Epps made his bones on stage but made his name from the Friday movies franchise. Epps has gone on to star or support in other movies but a return to the stage with a cast this larger could relaunch his career. Epps has done comedy specials over the years and still has a fan following they could earn a big draw.

Williams has a cult following that may rival Tupac’s. He made his bones as a stand-up and like Epps before him, he made his name as the Pimp Money Mike in the Friday franchise. While Williams has gone on to tour the world his career has not expanded off the stage like the others. But, regardless of his off stage appeal, he is still a huge draw in the comedy world with his off the wall joke, voice and stage presence.

Hart is the King of comedy now and has shown no signs of slowing down. Another person that has made his way through the stage but he has quickly become an A-list actor in Hollywood’s eyes. Hart’s career has mirrored the legendary Eddie Murphy in terms of stage presence and the big screen. Hart has gone beyond the comedy specials and has turned what others do on Comedy Central into feature film projects.

Chappelle is the missing link to the Kings of Comedy reprise. There are others that could fill the slot but none will bring the charisma that Chappelle can. His Chappelle Show is still talked about to this day as one of the best shows to ever hit the small screen. During his departure others such as the ones mentioned above have taken the torch and ran with it but if this tour were to happen, it simply can’t without his presence.

Each comedian brings their own element to the stage. As good as the original was the second will be 10 times better. This is a different generation of viewers now and each has their own following who gross should topple the $38 million the original movie made.
